looking for movies - May 1st 2015, 03:43 PM

Hey,
I wonder if anyone knows any good mental health movies.
Things like bullying can be included since it impacts the mental health of the person bullied.

I'm not sure exactly what type of mental health related movies you're referring to, so I'll just give you a few options.

-Good Will Hunting (one of my personal favorites about the impacts of therapy)
-A Beautiful Mind (true story about a genius with schizophrenia)
-Cyberbully (focuses on a girl being cyberbullied via a social media site)
-Benny & Joon (mentally ill woman can barely function in the real world, falls in love, impacts on her life as a result)
-Lars and the Real Girl (delusional man convinces himself that a doll is a real woman/his wife)

Keep in mind that all but one of these are true stories and they all focus more on the plot than the actual mental health issues, though. I hope this is along the lines of what you were looking for.

wanderlust consumed her;
foreign hearts & exotic minds compelled her.
she had a gypsy soul
and a vibrant heart for the unknown.

Well this one is about this girl recovering from her drug addiction and subsequently depression; I watched it and it's now one of my favorite movies so yeah:

- To Write Love On Her Arms.

Hope you enjoy!

a beautiful mind (2001)

prozac nation (2001) (also a book, i highly recommend it)
it's kind of a funny story (2010) (a book as well)
rain man (1988)
what's eating gilbert grape (1993)
girl, interrupted (1999) (warning: triggering)

Most of the ones that came to mind for me have already been mentioned. Girl, Interrupted and Good Will Hunting would be two I'd have particular praise for. Trainspotting is a film (and book) about addiction and substance abuse that is one of my favourites. Also, another favourite of mine is Donnie Darko.

Some of these have been mentioned

Cyberbully
Girl, Interrupted (triggering)
To write Love On Her Arms (it's about Renee Yohe the girl that inspired the foundation TWLOHA) (Triggering for drugs and cutting in a sceen)
The Ward (it's kind of scary not really and it's good...Might be triggering though)

Don't lose who you are, in the blur of the stars
Seeing is deceiving, dreaming is believing,
It's okay not to be okay
Sometimes it's hard, to follow your heart
Tears don't mean you're losing, everybody's bruising,
Just be true to who you are
