good sad movies - March 29th 2016, 01:00 AM

This thread has been labeled as triggering by the original poster or by a Moderator. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

What are some good sad movies I should watch. I would love some about suicide, self-harm, eating disorders, depression, or other mental health issues.

Don't lose who you are, in the blur of the stars
Seeing is deceiving, dreaming is believing,
It's okay not to be okay
Sometimes it's hard, to follow your heart
Tears don't mean you're losing, everybody's bruising,
Just be true to who you are

Hi Frankie,
What movies have you watched so far?

This is a list of movies I've watched:

Perks of Being a Wildflower

Cyberbully

Imagine a world in which Gay is the norm[/url] It is a short film about bullying

Thin is a film about eating disorders. It is a documentary style though so it may be particularly triggering.

There is also a T.V. show called "Degrassi" which I've only seen clips and maybe one full episode but there is a lot of seasons and a lot of teenagers with mental health problems.

Here are some scenes that I found but I am sorry I do not know which episodes these are from but it may be a spoiler. However I think most episodes have some kind of scene of mental health problems.
------------------------------------------------------
Quote:
Introduced in season 12, we thought Campbell Saunders was going to be a “Degrassi” regular...But underneath his shy and sweet demeanor, Cam was hiding a dark secret: he was depressed.
Quote:
Paige discovered Ellie was cutting herself in the girls’ bathroom
Quote:
OK, so we were not huge fans of Craig’s abusive dad...
Quote:
Emma’s eating disorder spanned a series of episodes.
The link that I got these quotes from is here but it may be a spoiler which is why I only selected quotes that don't reveal too much. Since Degrassi is a TV show with many seasons, you may want to start from the beginning. I hope this helped a little!

Speak is a good one, but triggering, it's about rape and speaking up for yourself.
A Beautiful Mind - can be sad at certain parts.
Precious - OMG
Sybill - Long but OMG!

Resilient
1. (of a person or animal) able to withstand or recover quickly from difficult conditions.
2. (of a substance or object) able to recoil or spring back into shape after bending, stretching, or being compressed.

We all possess resilience, we just need to realize it.

ooh I second the Speak movie. It is based on a book so there's also that if you want to read it.

Seems like you've watched a few that I've mentioned so I searched up some more for you :3 NAMI is a mental health organization and has a list of movies on mental health! For more details you can check it out here

The ones that NAMI has that you was not mentioned on this thread so far are:

Autism: Rain man (1988)

Anxiety: What About Bob (1991)

OCD : As Good As it Gets (1997)

Bipolar disorder: Silver Linings Playbook (2012)

Depression: The Skeleton Twins (2014

General Mental Health: Inside Out (2015)

Someone in the comments suggested these, I picked out the ones I didn't see on your list:
Quote:
Take these broken wings *
The Dr who hears voices *
Healing homes *
The Open Dialogue Approach *
Bipolarized
Numb
Masks of Madness*
Feed your head
Free the mind +
Of two minds +
You can heal your life *

The movies followed by an * can be seen on youtube for free.
Those followed by a + can be found on Netflix. - See more at: https://www.nami.org/Blogs/NAMI-Blog....sHr4oEcO.dpuf
