Best/Worst Movies You've Seen Lately - May 24th 2010, 06:13 AM

The title pretty much says it. What are the best and the worst movies you've seen in the past.... say.... year?

For me, I'll start with the best, and I'll rate them out of five (mostly because I can).

Avatar (4.8/5)
Star Trek (Newest movie) (4.6/5)
Michael Clayton (4.7/5)
Boondock Saints (4.4/5)

And now for the worst....

Where The Wild Things Are (1.4/5)
Resident Evil: Extinction (2.2/5)
G.I. Joe (1.8/5)
2012 (2.1/5)

So.... what are yours?

I don't remember all the movies I've watched in the last year, but the few that stand out are:

Avatar 5/5, New Moon 5/5, IP Man 4.5/5, A Walk to Remember 4/5 (because I'm a little late to watch it ).

There are more but.. can't think of them right now.

Really? Avatar gets rated so highly? It didn't even have a plot!

Of the past few years,
Coraline 4.7/5
Up 4.65/5
Star Trek 4/5

Night at the museum 2 0.8/5
Avatar 0.3/5 (only so high because of the shiny graphics and the 3D)

Hmm. what movie were you watching then? lol. Because it had an amazing story line and it mainly was symbolizing different events in history, like 9/11. That is why a lot of people enjoy it so much.

I watched Avatar the other day and I was so impressed by it. I mean, seriously. It's one of the best movies I've ever seen. Oh! And I also saw Alice in Wonderland and it was okay, but I seriously expected just a little bit more from Tim Burton.

Oh and the Princess and the Frog, who has seen it? So cute (:

I totally agree with you. It may have symbolized certain events, but seriously? It was so boring. All it was was pointless action scene after pointless action scene. I'm sorry to anyone who loves that movie, which seems to be pretty much everyone in the universe. I just didn't like it (Just in my opinion).

The Hurt Locker (3.5/5). It was OK, I just wished that the main character was more interesting..

Oh jeez, I'm going to take a lot of flak for this, but...
Avatar- 2/5 (only because the CGI guys deserve credit)

Nightmare On Elm Street- 4/5

The Karate Kid- 4/5 (it really did the original justice)

New Moon- 5/5 (simply because it's too much fun to mock these movies, especially with RiffTrax)

Paranormal Activity- 5/5

Quarantine- 5/5 (again, such fun when you're with a crowd who talks throughout movies)

Haha, don't apologize, it's your opinion, and it's a valid one.

I really liked it because they managed to make what was, to me at least, a really horrific movie without having a bunch of jump scares and without tons of gore and without everything being CGI. I loved how it managed to create all the horror through suspense rather than just violence and CGI monsters.

oh fair enough, i agree with you there. my boyfriend watched it before me and made me think it was a really scary film, so i watched it with him and my mum and i made myself scared thinking it was scary when it actually wasnt in my eyes lol. but i agree with you, that it was good that it didnt have to be gore or loads of jumpy scenes to be a alright movie

So, coming back to my old thread....

I've now seen The Last Samurai and Breach.

The Last Samurai was fairly good, I'd put it at 4.3/5
Breach was excellent, I'd say 4.7/5

I also watched Serenity, which I give a perfectly middle 2.5/5

Re: Best/Worst Movies You've Seen Lately - July 4th 2010, 07:08 PM

not really sure about the worst/best cause i like every movie...
mostly cause i look at the reviews before i pick them out. so... like this:
hachi (4.8/5) this one cried my eyes out
knowing(4.7/5) watched this one twice. love nick cage.
everybody's fine(4.6/5) this one reminded me of things, also cried after, loved it.
enchanted(4.6/5) best fairytale i ever watched
leap year(4.6/5) amy adams does her magic. well i liked this comedy/romance film. it showed ireland and how unexpected love goes.
alice in wonderland(4.5/5) fantasy ive seen before, but even better made
the curious case of benjamin button(4.5/5) no words to decribe. it was mysterious and strange and very weird. i was inspired by their love
martian child(4.4/5) cute strange kid. i liked this family story
revolutionary road(4.4/5) who wouldnt like to watch marriage fights? great performance by the titanic couple. the ending was just too much sad.
surrogates(4.4/5) i liked the plot,it has an interesting message
avatar (4.3/5) great graphics but the story is many times repeated
2012 (4/5) i liked this one cause of the apocalypse in the near end, also john cusack
bride wars(4/5) i like how this comedy made, and the emotional parts. but it wasnt the best i watched
the road(3.8/5) it isnt the best movie ive seen. but it does show courage of a small small family fighting against death.
edge of darkness(3.8/5) blood, too much mystery, mel gibson improved a bit of it though
dark knight(3.7) batman and joker are the same. it wasnt much surprising in a good way... joker was far better, thats why this role won oscar
the gran torino(3.5/5) i liked this drama,it has a lesson about life and death
pandorum(2.8/5) just going around a space ship, i couldnt even keep up
17 again(2.7/5) too cheesy
breaking and entering(1.9/5) too much i wasnt supposed to see
australia(1.5/5) nicole kidman has a good preformnce BUT its a boring plot. i might try watch it again
stardust(1.3/5) i stopped watching this one in the middle.
mirrors(1.1) again, stopped watching this one. too much bloody scenes. i couldnt bare to watch
slumdog millioner (0.5/5) got me to sleep. dont want to say anymore,im just too critical.

AND soooo many more... i couldnt stop adding. mixed up years though yup, i am a movie freak.
when i was honest, there are really bad movies. just didnt think of that in the 1st place... i can offer any advice on movies, just ask. watched too much this year...

hope that answers enough. i would talk about any movie. recommendations too.

I moved back while

Upside down
closer to the end.

Afraid of the dark
within future times.

I'm drowning there,
my final chase.

Worst - Pineapple Express and Beowolf.

Best - Eclipse
Love Actually.
Rent.

Wow. I freaking loved that movie.

I highly recommend Eclipse too, if you're not into movies being serious and having a message behind them. Entertaining and fun. 7/10.

(Sorry for not using a scale out of 5...I'm all about the 10's )

we all have our different tastes, don't we? someone actually loves different genres. just that when i watched slumdog milioner,i had too high expectations. that might have been the problem.
anyway...to keep on with the subject
the last movie i watched was
the number 23 don't ask for a review. 6/10 cause its a VERY restricted movie. without some scenes, i would give a maximum. cause the whole story is very interesting and worth of learning,in the end of it.

too bad no one mentioned movies killers, team A, Robin hood or toy story 3 yet. i am curious about those. watching the 1st one tomorrow.

I moved back while
my head was turned.

Life is a waterfall,
we're one in the river,
and one again after the fall.
We drink from the river,
then we turn around and put up our walls.
When you lose small mind,
you free your life.
When you free your eyes,
eternal prize.
