ABC "Cyberbully" Movie - July 10th 2011, 05:30 PM

Saw a commercial earlier that the ABC Family Network is going to air a movie about cyberbullying on Sunday July 17th. I found this page with more information:

http://abcfamily.go.com/movies/cyberbully

It is good that this problem is being seriously brought into the public eye with a common realistic scenario.

I really have been wanting to see that. As a former victim of cyberbullying, I think that this is great that this serious issue is being recognized.

The plot for this movie reminds me of "Odd Girl Out", a Lifetime movie. However, I'm super excited to see this movie. I hope it's good.

Wasn't aware so many people were glorifying bullying. Anyways. I wanna watch it but I have a feeling it's gonna be dreadfully corny. :/

I sent him a card and I drew a picture of a Wild Thing on it. I wrote,

Then I got a letter back from his mother and she said, “Jim loved your card so much he ate it.”
That to me was one of the highest compliments I’ve ever received. He didn’t care that it was an original Maurice Sendak drawing or anything.

But from what I saw it was really good!
Anyone know when it will be on again? xD

I have been cyberbullied by more than one person more than once and it was a fantastic movie. And both me and my grandma are thinking it is an actually true story because of them little note at the end they only really put those things on there when they are true story's.

I loved it and if it comes out on DVD then I will buy it:]

I haven't seen the movie as I have the feeling it'll be a sob story with petty bullying given it's on ABC affiliated with Disney and the target is teens and pre-teens. When people say certain movies bring tears to their eyes, I'm either laughing, asleep or bored, so judging from the reactions of other users. It's safe to say I'm not planning to waste time watching it.

Sure, it's a sob story, but it's incredibly realistic. And anyone who's been bullied knows that there's no such thing as petty bullying. Bullying hurts like hell, so this is a very relateable story.

completely agree. I read some people's reactions on Tumblr about it and I can't believe what they would say. Some people siad, "why would she attempt over being called a slut"...or "it is corny". I guess, if they haven't actually gone through cyberbullying, then they just don't know what it is like to be bullied and harrassed online.

This movie reminded me so much of my owncexperiences. <3 I didn't cry because my mom was there but I did get misty eyed. And that is coming from someone who never cries.

I hope they air this movie on other channels and maybe a short time in select theaters. Cyberbullying and bullying is a serious topic that needs to be handled.

Honestly thats how i felt at first. but i was bored so i watched it. It does raise attention to the cyberbullying subject which is good. But on the other hand i couldnt relate at all to the movie, its not that i was never bullied its just i never let it bother me.

I can understand relating to this movie, but why did she NEVER delete anything? Not her profile, which I can understand, but not any of the posts against her either? If someone posted on my Facebook page something THAT hurtful, I would delete it and block them, not make myself look stupid by trying to argue with them. It also would have been a lot more relatable if they actually used Facebook, and not some sketchy "Clicksters" website. Cyberbullying is generally more subtle too, not just people posting directly hurtful things about eachother all the time for everyone to see.

Just my opinion. I wish it would've been different, but it's still nice to see people trying to take a stand against it.

That's exactly what I thought of when I first saw the trailer for Cyberbully.

I watched the movie today and I thought it was okay. Like others have said, it did a good job of raising the issue of cyberbullying. A lot of scenes in the movie seemed very realistic, but some parts seemed a little too scripted and whatnot. But anyways, it was definitely a lot better than what I was expecting. :]

It really isn't that easy to just delete it...because like what she does in the movie, she goes back and reads it because people are going to talk about it in school. Sometimes your brain wont let you delete it because it's a reminder, i can't describe it well...but when I was bullied online, I could never delete it. And, even if she did delete it...she still read it...it still hurts. Other people still read it. Deleting doesn't exactly fix everything. Ya know?

I didn't like it. I've been bullied and cyberbullied and for this day and age I thought it was very unrealistic. In all the experience my friends and I have gone through with bullying, no one has ever been stupid enough to do it so OPENLY where they could be directly connected by name (i.e, Facebook). It was always "AIM wars" or whatever.

Their anti-bullying strategy was way too direct. The support group comments and how Taylor stood up to the bully at the end? Way too cheesy.

I'm not trying to minimize the problem, as I understand persistent bullying like what Taylor endured can drive many people to desperate acts. I just think the way in which the media portrays cyberbullying is almost too public. I thought Odd Girl Out was so much better and realistic.

Becca. :]

I didn't like it, I felt it was too dramatized. I think it is good they are trying to raise this issue to the general public but I could guess what was going to happen from start to end. The bullying comments a lot of them were just in my opinion not actually very bad
Spoiler:
you're ugly
. I went through this myself and I felt if that was all that happened to me I would have been very happy.

I think that in today's world that this is not how it would happen and so they were promoting the past and not the present. I just felt that overall if they really wanted to raise this issue they should have maybe made it a lot more realistic. Triggering spoiler
Spoiler:
I mean she spent 10 minutes trying to get the cap off the bottle of pills. I mean that is just very unrealistic
.

I can't say I was disappointed with it though because I never expected it to be realistic.

Cyberbully [2011] - July 26th 2011, 06:08 PM

Ummmm, I don't really know what to think. I like how it's trying to show awareness of online bullying but there were too many questions unanswered.

1) Why didn't she just block the people on her profile? as soon as it started happening she could have blocked them. I know at one point she says "I never thought of that" but, really? It's the the most obvious solution.

2) Better question, why didn't she delete her profile? or make a new profile and then block everyone who was bullying her.

3) Why did Scott suddenly believe all the rumours? one second he was saying it was stupid and he got hacked before and then the next he's believing everything on her profile.

The twist with Samantha was just stupid

I answered this in the other thread but overall I think this movie is pretty unrealistic and I felt like I wasted some time by watching it when I am so busy.

Oh, God >.> I didn't realise there was another thread. I just had to merge my own thread, fail.

Just pretend that never happened

Also, that video they posted on her profile made me laugh more than anything. It was the stupidest thing I have ever seen.

I personally didn't like it. It was overly dramatized.

I didn't really like it either, a lot of it was unrealistic and over-dramatized.

I liked it. Yes, it was over-dramatized, but what made-for-TV-movie isn't? Emily did a great job acting & I actually teared up at certain scenes, because it reminded me of when I was bullied. It's not an award winning movie or something I can watch over & over, but it was enjoyable.
