Who dosn't love music??But... -

I love music but who doesn't? (Maybe a few) Since (at least) over half of the population likes to listen to music why do people act like it is some horrid tragedy if you are cought listening to country music or like country music?
Personally I like at least one song from every genre of music you throw at me. Is it still the typical act of prejudice, but this time judging people on what kind of music they listen or is it something else. **SIDE NOTE** Yes, I odiously made up the the facts. and No bashing or rude comments!!!!!!!!!!! ![]() Some say the world will end in fire Some say in ice From what I've tasted of desire I hold with those who favor fire But if it had to perish twice I think I know enough of hate To say that for destruction ice Is also great And would suffice. -- Robert Frost-- |

Because there are a million music snobs out there. They think the music they like is "superior" music and any other genres are crap/stupid.
I hate it when people ask me what music I like, when I say "practically everything" they say "what? even classical and country" yes :| yes, I do. I couldn't listen to one genre constantly, it would bore me. If you happen to only like one genre, then great, just don't look down at me because I have a diverse music taste. Excuse my rant

Some people don't like a certain genre and have stereotypes (as we all do) about people who like that genre. Those stereotypes based on whatever sources aren't positive. However we don't listen to a majority of songs of a certain genre then say we like/don't like it. Usually it's only a few so people listen to only a few and dislike those ones, then assume all others of that genre are going to be so similar they'll dislike them as well.
My view when it comes to genres is they annoy me. When I talk with someone who likes rock or metal, usually it's about sub-genres, such as "do you like this band, they're very darkwave, post-new grunge metal with a twist of old school...". I hate classifying it in such precise sub-genres. Maybe if they're a music store that's great to organize but I don't care, people ask me what genres I like and I list some bands, such as Rob Zombie. Some of them begin analyzing it saying "you like deathmetal and darkwave, wow well I only care for...". My genre classification is this: classical, country, crap I may like sometimes, metal (includes rock), rap (includes r&b, reggae, etc...), pop and crap that makes my ears bleed. What annoys me isn't saying "I don't like country" or "country music sucks". Rather I dislike it when people start saying all these detailed, often made-up sub-genres and sub-sub-genres. To me the only thing I care enough about to categorize in such detail is biology, neuroscience and pharmacology. Music isn't that so it doesn't get that treatment. I can rip you off, and steal all your cash, suckerpunch you in the face, stand back and laugh. Leave you stranded as fast as a heart-attack.
