I'd love to see them live. And I don't think it's possible for anyone to not like Muse. Even my grandma's sister who likes gospel and only gospel said she liked the song I posted of theirs on Facebook, and that's saying something, lol.

I don't like them. I listened to a few of their songs because I was curious, but nah. Not my thing, I guess.

"Once a little boy sent me a charming card with a little drawing on it. I loved it.
I sent him a card and I drew a picture of a Wild Thing on it. I wrote,
“Dear Jim: I loved your card.”
Then I got a letter back from his mother and she said, “Jim loved your card so much he ate it.”
That to me was one of the highest compliments I’ve ever received. He didn’t care that it was an original Maurice Sendak drawing or anything.
He saw it, he loved it, he ate it."

Eh, yeah. Everyone has a right to their own music.

And I know, Melody! Muse is so... Different. They're not like anything else. They've got soft songs, hard songs, and songs that are somewhere in between, somehow. And their lyrics are different, yet understandable.

I would love to be able to see them live! (:

Sold out? As in they sold out to a company or something? Or sold out as in their concerts are always completely sold out???

Re: Muse, anyone? - July 9th 2011, 10:48 PM

Completely mainstream. Used to be they were niche.. all their fans were this really tight community, supporting this really out-there, genuinely talented band that nobody had heard of. Everybody had huge expectations for The Resistance..

But then they produced their worst, most mainstream, least unique record they'd ever made. It was genuinely crap - and what was worse, it sold more than any of their others. Resistance, one of their worst songs to date, is now at the top of their last.fm and received more airtime than pretty much any other. And then their last.fm charts rocketed by something like 40 million - everybody knew about Muse, everybody loved Muse and - guess what? - everybody, except the original fans, loved the new album and most were introduced to Muse because of it.

Re: Muse, anyone? - July 9th 2011, 10:57 PM

Yeah, I see what you're meaning. The Resistance is pretty different from the other albums. Hated their song Neutron Star Collision.

But it can't be helped. AFI, my favorite band, did the exact same thing. They started out hardcore punk, then this pop-punk kind of stuff, then went post-hardcore, then went straight up rock. I can honestly say I like their old stuff better, but I know that they, at least, tend to go wherever their music leads them.

And I can say from the bit of songwriting I've done myself that it's hard to keep the same style, and not end up with songs that sound like every other one you've ever written. So I can see, somewhat, why they changed their sound so drastically. It's also true that they may have did it for the money, too, though if they did, then that's just sad, 'cause I hate when bands do that.

Re: Muse, anyone? - July 10th 2011, 01:31 AM

Oh come on. They may have sold out, but it was way before the Resistance album. Everyone knew an album like that was coming. Completely over the top, totally ridiculous, and pretty damn awesome. It was just a continuation of Black Holes and Revelations. They had already started to change their sound during Absolution.

I wouldn't say they were unique. They're more unique now. Showbiz sounds like OK Computer in more than just a few places (and that's not exactly a bad thing...). No one is making these massive, geeky, space-age anthems that they're creating now. Knights of Cydonia is one of the stupidest songs ever yet it's bloody brilliant. It's massive, it gets everyone pumped up, and it's downright fun.

And yes, they are AMAZING live. Different class entirely.

I do like Resistance, it's just not one of my favorites of theirs.

And lol, speaking of Knights of Cydonia, have you ever seen the video to that? I literally sat there with my eyes jumping out of my head, stunned so silly that I was unable to laugh, from the very moment that caption: "Snake style," appeared next to the man's head.
