Talking Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - July 15th 2009, 11:15 AM

This thread has been labeled as containing spoilers. The contents of this thread might therefore describe important elements of a storyline that could ruin it for you. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

So I haven't seen a thread on here about it so I just thought -

Is anyone going to see this?
Do you think it'll be better than the rest of the films?
And let us know what you think when you've seen it.

I'm going to see it tonight and I can't wait I'm not the biggest Harry Potter fan but it looks really good and I'm excited.

I suppose this is for all those Harry Potter nerds out there.

I was supposed to go see it tonight... but we just got back from the cinema and it's sold out. It's never been sold out before! I live in a really really small town. Haha. Anyway.

I got my ticket for tomorrow night, and I'm comtemplating locking it in a safe so i don't lose it.

I heard it was good. And some people said they were disappointed in it for some reason.

I am hoping to go see it tonight to celebrate my sister's birthday.

I was planning on seeing it today at three with my brother, but now my bro doesn't want to go, and i don't want to go by myself, so i probably won't see it for a while.

A lot of my friends were dissappointed in it. However the critics on Yahoo the viewers= A- and real critics= B+

i guess you should tell us how you liked it, after you see it today. =)

Saw it last night, and absolutely loved it--that is, up until the very end, a time during which I wanted to kill J.K. Rowling.

I'm sure all of you Potter fans and anyone whose read the spoilers can guess why...

Oh. My. God.

I saw it at midnight last night.

It was insane. It didn't follow the book all that much in my opinion.
I'll tell more details when other people watch it too. Haha.

I've just seen it and I liked it. They did miss out loads and it ends on a slightly negative note, but I found the beginning bits really funny.

I saw it today! It was great, but they had skipped a lot of important scenes. But I'd give it a 4 of 5

I went to see it earlier and it was good but not that good. I was slightly dissapointed with parts and I felt they didn't develop the plot as well as they could. Friends who've never read the book had to ask me afterwards about the plot and some of the new characters.

I wanted to see it tonight but every cinema is booked up near me, which sucks. I'm hoping I can go and see it soon because I really want to see it. I've heard it's really good.

I saw it at the midnight premier last night
It was really good, though they missed out on some important parts from the book. It had a lot of humor, sadness and was just a really entertaining movie!

Slight spoiler alert, but not really ... Did anyone else laugh and laugh at how absolutly STONED Harry was acting when he took the Felix Felicis?

To add to my comment from earlier, I just got home from seeing it. I thought it was funny and some parts were good. I really wish it would have had a different ending. Oh well.

I enjoyed the movie.
Yes, the plot ended up being a bit different from the book, but it's just like most books into turned into films. It felt very...fast paced, but I liked it anyways. :]

I hated the ending but loved it overall.

I REALLY wish they'd stuck to the proper funeral for Dumbledore, the way it was in the book. I don't think they did his death enough justice in the movie.

Loved the balance of serious vs humor, it worked much better than I had expected.

I saw it yesterday and I was disappointed that they left the fight at Hogwarts out. Also, that Lupin and Tonks got together before the end of the film and they added in an attack on The Burrow which doesn't even happen until the 7th book. It was funny when Harry had drunk the Felix Felicis potion, he was much funnier than usual.

I saw it and it was really good, but definately not the best out of all the films. I always thought the 6th book was more about explaining why events occur and who does what rather than a big climax at the end like the rest of the films.

Also, was a little confused about the bit at the Burrow which wasn't in the book..I wasn't sure I saw the point of that or maybe I am being thick

Wow, it seems that I'm the only one who's extremely disappointed in this film. I mean, if I hadn't read the book then I wouldn't be as disappointed I suppose. But seriously, I lost count of how many time it looked like people didn't know where they were going. They missed out lot's of important things AND they got the overall mood of the film wrong. And they missed out the most exciting bit in the film! Grrr!

Although there were some pieces that I wasn't wild about, I have to admit that I LOVED the directing. I thought the effects were great, and the lighting. I thought it was done beautifully. Does anyone else feel the same way?

I thought it was good. Wasn't fond of the ending though. And one scene made my sister scream...so that just like enhanced the excitement for everyone there.

Which scene made your sister scream? Was it the one with the inferi? Everyone in my cinema jumped when the hand shot out.

Two words:
Tom Felton

He made this film for me! He has never acted so well, the Sectumsempra scene was so good. I am now a huge Malfoy fan! (Well tbh Harry's always annoyed me )

Some of the re-ordering of the plot annoyed me and the things they changed with the Harry-Ginny relationship but none as much as the added scene of Bellatrix at the Burrow, I mean seriously what was the point in that? And I felt like the episode of Dumbledore and Harry getting the Horocrux was anticlimactic. But like my friend said you have to judge the film and books as separate entities

However all that aside, there were still some great moments, like when Harry has just drunk Liquid Luck, the death scene (All those wands, I nearly cried!) and when Hermione and Harry were discussing heart break.

All in all a good film the more I think about it then more I want to see it again.

Harry taking the liquid luck was the funniest thing on the face of the Earth. He played that part out well. And was just like, hysterically sarcastic. It was great. My favorite part by far.

I was glad they didn't just kind of.. spoof away Dumbledore's death like they did with Sirus'.

^This. I loved Tom Felton, he completely made the movie for me.
Some of the scenes I wasn't crazy about- I thought the beginning was terrible, and I was upset with the ending as well, but that's mainly because I love the book so much. My favorite part was when Harry took the Liquid Luck. I thought the Astronomy Tower scene was well done, also, although I missed seeing the battle against the Death Eaters.
Overall, it was a very good movie, and I'm hoping to go see it a second time next week.

I almost forgot! I was totally wondering where the death eater battle was! A few minutes of spells flying would have been good

My eyes were watering up when they all had their wands in the air, I'm terrible at sad parts in films. I also felt my eyes watering up when The Burrow had just been destroyed and all the Weasley's were staring at it crying.

it was probably one of the better ones, BUT it still wasn't great. I think it's impossible to make a good HP movie past the third one ,though; there is just too much detail and plot, none of which is throwaway, to make a movie that will match up to the book.

The third movie was almost perfect because, althought it was dark and started touching on the themes present in the last half of the series, the source was short enough that most of the plot could be left in the film version. As long as the later books are being turned into 2.5 hour movies, they will never be great.

The third movie was almost perfect because, althought it was dark and started touching on the themes present in the last half of the series, the source was short enough that most of the plot could be left in the film version. As long as the later books are being turned into 2.5 hour movies, they will never be great.
I wouldn't mind sitting through a 3 hour+ Harry Potter movie if it meant they kept more things in. I mean Lord of the Rings was about 3 hours and plenty of people still went to see that.

I saw the movie yesterday and love that smart little element of humor that's always been in the series, and I thought the movie was awesome. I don't remember much from the book because it's been over a year since i've read it, but some people have been saying that many crucial scenes in the book have been taken and replaced by totally made up scenes. Is that true?

I was actually disappointed it was still good. But you know. I loved the book.
The mucked up a lot.
SPOILERS
The fact they cut out the battle
They screwed up parts of draco's mission
They just stuck Tonks and lupin together without explaining it
Luna found Harry on the train.
The added scene at the burrow did not get that at all
I could go on.
But yeah good. I just wish they'd been more faithful to the books

Kinda sucks to me that they split it into two movies since the next wont be out for a while
Not that I read the books...

I'm telling you now, it's freaking great. I just got back a little while ago.
If you're a Harry Potter fan, you'll love it. I thought it was much more dramatic and a little more grown up then the other films though. haha, I guess that's a good thing for those of us who have grown up with Harry Potter, like me. aha
