List of Must read books/ Must see films - July 16th 2009, 08:52 PM

Well I just watched The Shawshank Redemption for the first time and was amazed. That probably is the best film I've ever seen, and I'm inspired to now watch some more amazing films and read some more, too. So (Though I'm not sure if this has been done) I'd like to make a list of "Timless Classics" if you like on TH. I can update a list and leave it on the first post for all to see, or you can just list some that you like. For now though, I'll leave it blank and when I add some more in, I'll add Shawshank etc.

Again, if this has been done then it's fine to lock or whatever else, but other than that I feel this is a great idea! Lets make some lists!
(And, I've cracked for putting Manga and Comics down. Feel free to list them also.)
My contribution:

Books:
His Dark Materials - Phillip Pullman
Of Mice and Men - John Steinbeck
The Lord Of The Rings - J.R.R Tolkien
The Picture Of Dorian Gray - Oscar Wilde
Cut - Patricia McCormick
Daddy's Little Earner - Maria Landon
Love Lessons - David Belbin
The Notebook -Nicolas Sparks
Harry Potter series - J.K Rowling
Go Ask Alice
Speak - Laurie Halse Anderson
Dead Teachers Don't Talk - David Belbin
The Perks of Being a Wallflower - Stephen Chbosky
Scarred - Sophie Andrews
The Bell Jar - Sylvia Plath
Jonathan Strange And Mr Norell - Susanna Clarke
Death Note Series - Tsugumi Ohba & Takeshi Obata
Death Note: Another Note - NisiOisiN
Watchmen - Alan Moore

All books are debateable and up for removal if no-one likes them (Please, I liked it but no Twilight) and try to keep to books you've read..

Films:
The Shawshank Redemption
The Dark Knight
Fight Club
Titanic
The Notebook
Harry Potter
Lord of the Rings
E.T
Spirited Away
The Nightmare Before Christmas
Love Actually
Paris, Je T'aime
Girl, Interrupted
La Haine
Trainspotting
Moulin Rouge!
Romeo And Juliet

I'll add everything to first post and then if anyone disagrees we can have a vote or whatever. I'm staying out of it :P
Could I get authors for every book? I mean, Go Ask Alice is anonymous I (think) know but was there another without an author?
Edit: My bad, no there wasn't.

Could I also ask that we try and default to the scheme of having [Book name] - [Author]? It's a little easier :P

No more? O:
I also added the Romeo and Juliet film. I thought it was good, anyhow.

I don't have this big list or anything but I HAVE to recommend the Night World series by L J Smith...it's the most amazing and addictive set of books I've ever read. 'The Night World is a secret society of vampires, werewolves, witches and creatures of darkness - a place too dangerous to fall in love'
Just try them, they rock!

I would like to add Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger and Overqualified by Joey Comeau
