The new Harry Potter film; What did YOU think? - August 11th 2009, 06:00 AM

This thread has been labeled as containing spoilers. The contents of this thread might therefore describe important elements of a storyline that could ruin it for you. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

Everyone was telling me that it was just horrid, but I got dragged to it by a friend last weekend, and I, myself, THOUGHT IT WAS AWESOME.

I think my friends just had another case of "boo-hoo, the book was better". How did you guys (who saw it) like the movie?

They stuck to the book well which is something they never seem to be able to do in these films.
I did like how they concentrated on the characters rather than the action. The film was a lot more... mature than the previous films.

I quite enjoyed it.

I loved it! I thought they did an amazing job. That being said, I have not ready number 6 yet. But, I have always enjoyed seeing the movies before reading the books, as it gives me a general image to go with. But I really loved it. I must say, though, that is was very dark and depressing but I think that gave it some depth, as horrible things are happening. I think what is going on with Snape in this movie, and even Malfoy is really really interesting, and I think the boy who plays Malfoy did an excellent job, especially when he's in the bathroom crying because it shows his personal anguish. So, I think it was awesome! I will definitely see this more than once.

I found that it was okay. But I didn't like the many added scenes.

I liked the movie a lot. I think it was funny too! But then again, I am one of the few who did not read the book.

Re: The new Harry Potter film; What did YOU think? - August 12th 2009, 01:44 AM

I liked the fact that they stuck to the book more than they have done in previous films.

A few of things I didn't like were:
  • They didn't have a whole lot of action (apart from the cave); they skipped out the fight scene in the castle a the end for example.
  • Also I didn't like how they handled Harry and Ginny's relationship at times. The main thing was they completely changed how they got together, with the kiss at the quidditch cup celebrations. It was so obvious they were going to hook up in the film where as in the book it came as a surprise which was nice.
  • And lastly they skipped the funeral at the end, which I was dissapointed about because it was a very emotional scene in the book.

But I really enjoyed the acting, I thought all of the actors did very well.

As much as I love the Harry Potter series, I actually found that movie a little boring. It wasn't my favorite out of the movies, but the friends that I went with seemed to think it was the best one yet.

I think this is the one they said was going to have two parts to it, isn't it? I haven't read the books so I'm not sure, but I was under those pretenses. If that's the case, they did great build up.

I loved it. It was probably the most emotionally engaging Potter film yet.
And yeah they left some things out and added something, but that's what you do with adaptations.
Definitely my favorite Harry Potter movie so far.

The only thing I didn't like was how Ginny was portrayed. Bonnie's wooden acting didn't help so much either... >__<

it was ok, i think they should have had the fight at the castle in instead of the thing at the burrow (which i thought was kinda pointless) and all my friends thought the ending could have been better.

it was great, but the random scene they added at the weasley's house was pointless and irritated me.... and i was miffed that they left out the fighting at the end.. as if the death eaters would be allowed to just walk out scott free!

It was a good film UNLESS you compared it to the book. Did anyone remember them mentioning Scrimgeour(sp?) Becuase if they didn't everyone who hasn't read the book is going to think Fudge is still Minister. =/

I hadn't read the book, and after seeing the film I really wouldn't want to either. I know everyone says that the books are so much better, but it's going to be hard to convince me to read it now! I love the action and drama in Harry Potter and was expecting more of it, so I was disappointed with that part. I just didn't think that much really happened in it, and there wasn't really anything to keep you gripped. Definitely not one of the best Harry Potters.

I thought it was amazing! Yeah, they didn't stick to the book perfectly, but what movie does? I think they kept all of the important details, and even included a few minor ones.

I saw it in the theater three times, and I really want to go again.

Considering I usually can barely stand the films, I actually really liked this one. It was funnier than the last ones (plus I enjoyed all the new romance that there never was in the other films ) They did leave a fair bit out though.

I made my brother go with me, because I didn't want to go alone.

I have always thought that the books were better than the movies. This particular movie was okay. I think it was too long though. If they wanted it to be that long they should have put more into it.

I'm hoping that the last movie will be a blow out! I hope it does well, and that it's the best HP by far.

Re: The new Harry Potter film; What did YOU think? - September 2nd 2009, 04:17 AM

Considering the fact that it's extremely difficult to cram such a large amount of "bookage" into a 2.5 hour movie, I would say they did a pretty dang good job. I thought it was kind of weird, though, that they added a few things that weren't even in the book to begin with. Wouldn't it make sense to use that time to add things that actually *did* happen? The whole chase in the cornfield with Bellatrix and Harry was kind of a "wtf" moment for me. I thought the movie as a whole was pretty awesome, though. I cried when Dumbledore died. (My friends didn't. They cried when Cedric died in the fourth movie though... which makes ZERO sense to me...)

I despised it. :/
I thought they did a terrible job of keeping to the book and, to me, this was the worst movie yet.
I couldn't stay interested in it. No matter how hard I tried, I just really couldn't. And I do understand they can't put in everything, but it makes no sense how they moved things around and took the time to put in what was never supposed to be there. :/ I just really hated it.
