Anime and Manga - February 10th 2009, 12:56 AM

I did a search and I'm surprised that no one has made a topic for this yet. I was originally going to just make this topic about anime, but I thought a lot of people who like anime read manga too.

So what have you read/watched?
What's your favourite anime/manga?
Who is your favourite writer?
Who is your favourite character?
And any other things you can think of!

I haven't watched a whole lot of anime, but I still really like it.
I've seen: Serial Experiments Lane, Hellsing, Hellsing OVA, FLCL, Paprika, Akira, Gunslinger Girls, and the first ten episodes of Cowboy Bebop.
And on my list to see is: Code Geass and Full Metal Alchemist.
My favourite has to be Hellsing. I love vampires =) I don't have a favourite writer, but my favourite character has to be Alucard from Hellsing or Spike from Cowboy Bebop. Both are very cool.

So who else likes anime?

Re: Anime and Manga - February 10th 2009, 01:06 AM

I LOVE anime~ I got into it about 2 years ago out of curiosity, and it turns out to be one of my favorite things now.

Animes I've seen:

Elfin Lied (I'd totally recommend this to anyone who likes a cute anime and doesn't mind violence)
Higurashi no naku koro ni, and Higuriashi no naku koro ni kai
Azumanga Diaoh
Full Metal Alchemist
Death Note

Manga's I've read:

Death Note
Tsubasa
Chobits
Hell Girl
Cowboy Bebop
xxxHolic

I'm not sure I have a favorite writer... though I've read a lot of works by CLAMP...

My favorite character of all time... L, from Death Note

Edit: By the way, awesome job on making a topic for this ~ Thanks~

Re: Anime and Manga - February 10th 2009, 11:07 PM

Omg, I love you for starting this, but hate you too because now I have to list everything. J/k

Watched:
Naruto (watching)
Bleach (watching)
Wolf's Rain (watched a lot of eps, but not all of them yet)
Kodocha (need to watch the rest)
Fruits Basket (finished)
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (finished, but missed an episode)
Ouran High School Host Club (finished)
Ginga Nagareboshi Gin (finished, but skipped a few episodes.)
Soul Eater (watching)
Buso Renkin (...stopped and need to finish)
Eureka seveN (finished)
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion (watching)

Manga:
Naruto (reading online- because there are going to be waaaay too many mangas.)
Bleach (reading)
Gintama (have vol.1, but not interested)
Juvenile Orion (finished)
Ginga Legend (Densetsu) Weed (I have vol.1 and 2, but I can't find the others.)
Wolf's Rain (reading)
Buso Renkin (reading)
Chrono Crusade (reading, but am thinking about quitting)
Fruits Basket (reading)
Backstage Prince (finished)
Kodocha (reading)
Miki Falls(finished)
La Corda D'Oro (reading- but not on my top priority)
Ouran High School Host Club (reading)
Vampire Knight (have first 3 volumes, but am not as interested.)
Hana Kimi (reading)

I'm definately addicted.

I think my favorite manga is Fruits Basket because of it's AMAZING story and plot. It's so deep that every time I read it (or recent chapters anyway) I cry.

My favorite anime ever is probably Eureka seveN. The story was very unique and the love in it was great. ^^

My favorite mangaka is probably either Tite Kubo (Bleach) or Yoshihiro Takahashi (Ginga Nagareboshi Gin and Densetsu Weed) Their styles are just so unique and their characters look so awesome!

As for favorite characters- there's just too many.

Re: Anime and Manga - February 10th 2009, 11:38 PM

Oh God, don't ask for a list of what I've read and watched. My lists would probably blow at least a few minds. Though I haven't watched or read much recently.

My collections of complete manga (either 100% complete or complete up to current releases): Death Note, Buso Renkin, D. Gray-Man (up to current releases, unless Vol. 12 is finally out).

My favorite anime: RahXephon, by far. A giant robot series that doesn't rely so heavily on the robot, giving lots of focus to the characters. A very deep plot that, unlike shows like Neon Genesis Evangelion, doesn't require a genius level IQ to figure out. And some of the best music I've ever heard in a series (though, considering it's a music-based series, that makes sense ).

Favorite manga: A tie between Death Note and D. Gray-man (and I'm not just listing Death Note because of popularity). Death Note was really such a compelling read, with the cat-and-mouse game between Light/Kira and L, and the evolution of the characters. But D. Gray-man gets points for mixing comedy with some great fantasy action in a fictional 19th century, with some really fun characters (anyone who reads it and doesn't LOVE Komui is simply insane).

Favorite writer: Definitely Sunao Yoshida (RIP). Yoshida has made the Trinity Blood novel series such a wonderful read. Very respectful of vampire legends, while very stylized.

Favorite Character: Despite every other series I've mentioned, I'm gonna go back to Trigun for this one - a tie between Vash the Stampede and Nicholas D. Wolfwood. Both are incredibly funny when the moment is right, but when needed, they're completely badass. And when it comes to Wolfwood, how can you hate on a guy whose weapon is a huge cross with a machine gun on one end and a rocket launcher on the other?

Anime/Manga rocks, although I'm bad with the names. My sister forced me to watch/read it for years, so I have seen/read a lot of different ones

Read:
Wish
Serenity
Inuyasha
Sailor Moon
Nana
...and others whose names I can't remember

Watched:
Inuyasha
Sailor Moon
Full Metal Alchemist
...among others.

Re: Anime and Manga - February 12th 2009, 02:19 PM

Hehe...I love anime, but I'm not gonna list them...faaar too many.
I just have to say, Code Geass is the essence of awesome condensed into anime format ^^

My favourite anime of 2008.

Whats your opinions on Full Metal Panic? I liked it...the ecchi bits were funny enough to be...well, funny whilst the action bits and the mech fights were great...

And before its summarised that I'm a mecha junkie, I'm gonna point out that I've watched the first two seasons of the japanese sailor moon, which is great, though I think to this date
SPOILERS:
Her friend, forgot her name the one with the auburn hair and the wee bow thingy, she went from being totally in love with that dark kingdom guy to the kid with the glasses waaaay too quickly, lol.
But yeahh...I like romanitc anime...good romantic anime that is, not the generic stuff...

Re: Anime and Manga - February 12th 2009, 10:36 PM

I'm so glad there's other people interested in anime on here! This is great. (Sorry for the long lists people! My mind has officially been blown =P Hehehe...just kidding. I'll probably watch that much by the end.)

I also want to say that I've finished watching all of Cowboy Bebop. I cried at the end (because I'm lame like that). It was amazing. I loved it so much! Now for the movie tomorrow night!
They are also making a live action movie of it to come out in 2011. They're making quite a few live action movies of animes soon. I here Akira will be live action as well. We can discuss those in this thread too
Personally, I dread the Cowboy Bebop live action. I hate Keanu Reeves with a passion and he is playing the main character, Spike. This is absolutely terrible. But I'm trying not to think about it.

Now, to get some opinions...Shall I start Full Metal Alchemist or Code Geass next? I've heard good things about both.
