I've been watching old movies lately. I have recommendations. - March 6th 2009, 05:19 AM

Maybe "recommendations" wasn't the right word. I have movies to command everybody to watch. The first two are no brainers, the other two aren't quite so well known. All of these movies left me speechless at the end.

1. Casablanca- If you've ever been in love and had your heart broken this movie will move you. The hype is well deserved. It's also very funny.

2. Citizen Kane- Fascinating story. The cinematography is astounding. A lot of the shots would serve beautifully as a still in any gallery. It's based on the life of a real news mogul in the early 1900s. It left me speechless.

3. Diabolique- Directed by a Henri-Georges Clouzot, by far the most suspenseful movie I have ever seen. I won't even give the plot. It's has a murder mystery theme. Clouzot's gorgeous wife, Vera stars. One of the best movies I've ever seen.

4. The Wages of Fear- Also a Clouzot movie, possibly the manliest movie I have ever seen. Poor migrant workers are offered a lot of money to drive volatile high explosives across a jungle in ill-suited trucks. Another opportunity to marvel at Vera Clouzot presents itself, though she's not in a starring role. You won't realize how invested you are in the story and characters until something distracts you.

I also suggest The Graduate.

I agree on the Tuesdays With Morrie one... though the book is even better :]

I watched Citizen Kane a couple weeks ago in one of my classes. It wasn't terribly entertaining to me, but the cinematography is amazing, I'll give it that.

I want to see Casablanca... I'll have to find it somewhere sometime.

If you know (and like) Yul Brynner (from the King and I) you should watch The Magnificent Seven. It's hilarious. Brynner is a cowboy!

Also a good old movie is Sabrina (the original) with Audrey Hepburn.

I like the Guns of The Naverone.
Ahaha!
As a child my mum recorded this thing off tv for me, and it caught the kast 10 minutes of this film where this woman looks up at the empire state building and gets hit or something. I always liked that last 10 mins

Here's to another vote for Casablanca. I own a special 2 DVD set of Casablanca. Casablanca purely is a classic and has given home to two of the most famous lines and moments in cinema history.

you guys forgot dirty dancing possibly the best movie ever...

So, is that what you call a getaway?
Tell me what you got away with.
Cause I've seen more spine in jellyfish.
I've seen more guts in eleven-year-old kids.
Have another drink and drive yourself home.
I hope there's ice on all the roads.
And you can think of me when you forget your seatbelt,
and again when your head goes through the windshield.
