Musically Frustrated - March 23rd 2009, 03:04 AM

I am so freakin' musically frustrated. Couple of years ago I discovered the band Tool which is now my absolute favorite band... I'm crazy about them. I find their music so satisfying and fulfilling to listen to. But now i can't seem to find any other music that I like. These days music like Godsmack or Rob Zombie are just stressful to listen to.
I like the band's branches like Perfect Circle, Puscifer, Isis, and so forth.. and there's also Led Zeppelin. I don't know. I just desperately require variety, I'm so frustrated.

I've tried exploring different genres, and I'm using websites like last.fm and Pandora to try to help my musical search... and just as an added effort, I figured I'd come here to see if you guys could help a sistah out.

For those of you who have similar musical tastes-- any suggestions?
I'm desperate. TT___TT

If you like Isis, try Red Sparowes.

Sounds like our musical tastes are fairly similar.

Try these artists/albums:

Dopethrone
by Electric Wizard
In the Court of the Crimson King by King Crimson
De-Loused in the Comatorium by The Mars Volta
Leviathan by Mastodon
Destroy Erase Improve and Chaosphere by Meshuggah (These guys are genius. They supported Tool on a couple tours for Lateralus)
Master of Puppets by Metallica (anything before "...And Justice For All" IMO)
Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd
In Rainbows by Radiohead
Rage Against the Machine by Rage Against the Machine
Every Red Heart Shines Toward the Sun by Red Sparrowes
Reign in Blood by Slayer
Toxicity by System of a Down
Detrimentalist by Venetian Snares

Personal favourites are in bold. Hope this helps.

Re: Musically Frustrated - March 27th 2009, 12:18 AM

Hey, thanks for the suggestions guys.
I have the potential to enjoy Red Sparrowes, Rush, Electric Wizard, Venetian Snares, and Pink Floyd for sure.... It's difficult. Do you ever find it's difficult to enjoy a song the first couple of times you listen to it? Usually it's not until I pay special attention to the song, like focusing on the lyrics and individual instruments, before I can appreciate it as a whole. A bit frustrating. T___T
I found Slayer and Meshuggah a bit too aggressive sounding for my tastes. =/

In my searches I have found Opeth, they're very nice sounding. I find I have a preference for guitar parts which have heavy blues influence, yet when I try to listen to BB King or Eric Clapton the uninteresting drum parts, back up singers, and saxophones drive me nuts.

Anyway, I'm rambling. Thank you very much for the suggestions! If anyone has anymore, please, post 'em. X)

I don't think I have ever enjoyed an album as soon as I listened to it. All great music requires weeks of listening before you truly discover how great it is.
