Video games and motion sickness - April 23rd 2012, 10:58 PM

Does anyone else get motion sickness whilst playing video games? I've been playing games all day and I feel really sick >___<

It really annoys me. I like games and I can't play them all the time

I remember having a Spongebob game when I was a kid and I would vomit within 30/40 minutes of playing it. I had to give it away in the end.

If it happens to you how do you deal with it?

(I'm not completely weird, it's a known thing http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motion_...ation_sickness)

I only started getting it with some of these new video games, so I stopped playing video games (that and who has the time?).
I still get it in 3D movies though, so given the option I always go for the regular 2D.

Try taking Gravol or something similar?

I can honestly say I've never had this issue before, although part of it is based on what you experience during very early childhood. I've been watching/playing games since I could walk and as a result it doesn't bother me. My sister on the other hand started when she was 13/14 and now that she's roughly your age she finds herself motion sick at times. Unfortunately there's not much "cure" for it. Just as people get motion sick in cars, or on roller coasters some cannot handle games. You can try to build up a tolerance, or have medication like Gravol to keep yourself from feeling too ill. Another option is to have a ten minute break for every 30-45 minutes you play.

My dad told me to take breaks The time flies by when I'm playing games. I could be playing for 3 hours and it would feel like 30 minutes.

I'm pretty sure most modern consoles can be programmed to save and turn off after a time period. Xboxes and PCs can, anyhow.

I get this so much! It sucks because I also love playing video games. I even get it in films when the camera moves too much (or at all).

I would suggest taking breaks, or setting a timer if you think you'll lose track of time. Don't force yourself to play if you feel really ill. Maybe you're sitting too close to the screen? Or maybe you need an eye test, just to check if it's anything to do with your vision.

I really do feel your pain. This is why I only play the Sims.
