Help deciding a laptop - April 23rd 2009, 01:03 AM

So, I'm interested in purchasing one of these two laptops since they're in my price range, but I wanted to get a little advice on which one would be better. Any input you have would be greatly appreciated. :]

Laptop 1: Toshiba

- Intel® Centrino Core™2 Duo T6400 Processor
- 3072MB RAM (upgradable to 8gb)
- 320GB hard drive
- 14.1" display
- Windows® Vista™ Home Premium 64-bit Edition

Laptop 2: Acer Extensa 4420

- 3gbs ram
- 250 HDD
- xp pro
- 14" screen
- 1.3MP web cam and mic
- Wifi and blue tooth and infrared
- Comes with a lot of editing software
- Sony vegas pro 500$ value
- Photoshop 150$ value.

Thanks! <3 xx

Toshiba is a great laptop brand. I don't think Acer is very good honestly. I would not get a laptop with no space though unless you plan on upgrading it later. So if you upgrade the Toshiba to 3Gb, then that's what I'd go with.

What's your price range? I mean, I can show you some nice cheap laptops. I can link them.

Oh, and the Toshiba has Duo Core. Good processor. I'd definitely get the Toshiba.

From what you've posted the toshiba seems better, but could you provide a link to the websites with the specific laptops on them? It can help me pick out the better one (really geeky guy here)

What will you use Vegas for? Short videos? I hear Vegas is pretty good, it's not Final Cut Pro, but it's still good.

Personally, I like the sound of the Toshiba better. The Acer seems to have a few more bells and whistles, but I think the Toshiba will be more reliable and will have more space.

Laptop 2 is a lot better. I have had both Acer and Toshiba computers and right now I have a Toshiba laptop whcih is Satellite A215-S7428- I also had an Acer Gemstone series the one at the top of the chart... Acer was soo much better and the customer support and over-all experience is a lot smoother.

Plus Acer has ePower which allows recovery for a re-format/fresh install if your Windows ever got corrupted which I also fix computers in my spare time and in the last month I had nine Toshiba notebooks come in with a corrupted HDD/Windows making it non bootable.

Acer don't actually have that by default though, since my laptops an Acer and didn't even come with a backup partition, never mind a backup disc.

Well nine out of ten Acer computers come with ePower.

However,
I know that Toshiba sometimes gives an actual Vista disc with their Satellite and Protege models.

They do? In that case, I'd say definitely go for the Toshiba.

As Mandark said, can we have a link to the site with the specification on there.
There's some information missing, such as the processor on the Acer, which can make a massive difference (to me anyway, not sure about anyone else). Also, with a specific model number, we can find out the more technical details to use for a better decision.

The latest editions of Photoshop are worth way more that $150, so that's likely to be a very old edition...Probably CS1 or older. (Current is CS4). So unless Vegas Pro is something you really want/need, I'd go with the Toshiba. I won't make a final decision until I've seen the full specifications though.
