Basically the goal of the game is to catch Pokemon, collect them, and eventually battle once you hit level 5.

You have to move around to usually find Pokemon, such as going for walks. It's kind of to get more people active outside of their homes!!

As you venture farther away you'll find new and different Pokemon. For each Pokemon you get you'll get stardust and that pokemons individual candy. And it's okay to collect duplicates because you can transfer them for more candy! Once you get enough of a pokemons candy and stardust you can power them up or evolve them!

You'll also find Pokestops which you can stop at and get items such as more pokeballs, potions, revives, eggs, razz berries, and etc. you'll also get Experience points (xp) by hitting these pokestops.
Pokestops are usually found at churches, art places, statues, memorials and parks!

You'll also find gyms where you can defend your team of fight another team which will be explained later once you hit level 5.

Does this help any? There are also quite a few guides online that go into more detail or have tips on hatching eggs and stuff like that. I recommend looking at them! They've been pretty helpful for myself.
