Downloading Sims 3 Custom Content... - July 10th 2009, 11:56 PM

I know you do it differently. Can anyone tell me how in very simple terms. I don't want to have to attempt to learn from a manual.

P.S. How does someone make custom content.. What program does it take, what process?

How to make content: http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?...Sims_3:Modding

How to install it: http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?...Custom_Content

I haven't tried to make it, it's too confusing for me but MTS2 is a pretty good site for help. Installing it is easy enough though.

To answer your intial question, to install custom content, simply navigate to the folder on your computer that has the package files. Click on the file name and it will prompt you through the rest of the installation process. When installing from The Sims 3 exchange, it should just do it automatically. If you are downloading from another site, when you click on the link it should prompt you whether to open or save the file. Simply select open and then it should just install the download. You can verify this in that the Sims 3 will open the launcher and take you to the download section, and you should see the item you downloaded there. Hopefully this helps.

In terms of the second part of your question. Creating customer content requires some fairly extensive knowledge of how to use Photoshop or similar software. There is a great freeware package called "Gimp" that is very similar to Photoshop and is completely free. Also see The Sims Resource as another great resource for creating custom content. You can get some great tutorials in addition to the "The Sims 3 Workshop" there. This is another required component for creating custom content. I have been making custom content for The Sims now for several years. It takes some time to get the hang of it, but with practice it is doable. Right now there is limited custom content available for The Sims 3. Primarily it's new lots, sims, and patterns.
