Acer laptop sound issues - July 11th 2009, 03:48 AM

Hey everyone,

My name is Corey and I'm new here and I have an important (for me) question to ask.

Well just recently today, my sound stopped working whenever I put my headphones into the jack on my Acer Aspire 6920 laptop. The sound still works fine on the laptop, but just doesn't work at all with the headphones plugged in.

Does anyone know why this is and how I can possibly fix this?

Looking forward to hearing from all of you and getting to know you guys.

Oh, and please don't tell me to do system updates, do a system restore, or restart my laptop please. I've tried all of those and they didn't work

Okay, I put in some extra work to try to help, since my bro has the same laptop
Go to the Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> then there's something like Acer HD Audio Manager. Make sure the outputs are set right in there and everything else is proper.

Thanks for trying to help. I appreciate it. However, it didn't work and neither did restarting it AGAIN. I think something went absolutely haywire.

So it works fine without headphones? Like the speakers are fine?

If that's the case, I think that there is either something wrong with the headphones you're using, or your jack might be messed up. Or, you could be putting it in the wrong jack, as I have made that mistake with my computer...

Have you tried a different pair of headphones?

I'd sing you a song, but I'm feeling quite off

Steph beat me to it - I was going to guess wrong jack.
Also, right click your sound icon and select playback devices. Double click the speakers and the properties window will appear.
From that, make sure that it recognises the jack (there should be a section labelled Jack Information). Also make sure that device usage is enabled.
Also, go to the advanced tab and play around with the default format and the test button; see if that helps.

Another thing could be that the headphones are damaged. Sometimes the inner wire can get ripped (happened with my skullcandy headphones ='[ ), so try with another set of headphones.

CHeck if the head phones are any good.

If not the motherboard's head phone jack is messed up that means u cannot fix it at all. Because the mother board would need to be replaced it cost about 400 dollars atleast and 75 bucks per hour lol ...

Or you can buy a USB sound card. if u really need a phonejack.

Okay, the problem's fixed now. I tried 2 different pairs of headphones and they both didn't work. I then found another pair and decided to give it a shot and they worked, so it was the headphones. Thank goodness.

Thanks to everyone who helped
