Was this what you were looking at?

Quote:
Solution: Special information regarding a blank or distorted screen on certain digital camera models

It has recently come to our attention that the vendor-supplied CCD image sensors used in this Canon digital camera may cause the following malfunction: When the product is used in recording or playback mode, the LCD screen and/or electronic viewfinder may exhibit either a distorted image or no image at all.

Effective immediately, and regardless of warranty status, Canon will repair, free of charge, products exhibiting the above-mentioned malfunction if the malfunction is caused by the CCD image sensor. Canon will also cover the cost of shipping and handling in connection with this repair.
I'm not sure what the specifics are of your issue, but I think that Canon will fix it. Give em a call and see what their opinion is on it.

They kinda have to take responsibility for it, given that they used faulty parts. It's very bad PR for them if they charge people to repair a product that they've admitted has a fatal flaw that isn't the customers fault.

For once in the world there isn't a product out there that breaks on purpose and requires the consumers to go out and spend an arm and a leg to repair it or buy an entirely new product. Microsoft could learn a thing or two from Canon...

Microsoft...not so much. I don't think they plan to have their products break.
Apple on the other hand... *cough*
