Anti virus software - July 16th 2009, 09:00 PM

Well I currently have Avast but I was wondering would it make my computer safer to install another antivirus program to use as back up? I seem to be getting a lot of trojans on my computer at the moment and although avast is good and takes care of them I'm worried in case avast becomes infected with something. I've heard having two can cause your computer to run slower but what if I only have avast switched on and keep the other for use in emergencies?

I guess what I'm asking is what are the advantages and disadvantages of having more than one antivirus program on your computer.

If you have two active anti-viruses you run into problems, as they both scan at the same time and in certain cases mark each other as viruses (which leads to ANTI-VIRUS WARS!!!! - It has been done! Kaspersky won after about a day!). The recommendation is to have one active, and one that you use to do in-depth scans of stuff you download or CD's or such - but it isn't necessary.

Nah, only have one active Anti-virus.

I find the best to be ZoneAlarm.

AVG is the best one I've found and Norton is the worst!

Yep. I use AVG.

And no, don't use two anti-virus programs.

Oh, please don't install another one. You'll just mess your computer up. Just use AVG and you'll be fine. You can download anti-spyware and anti-malware programs though, just don't download another anti-virus scanner.

Union Of V pretty much summed up what happens when you have 2 installed
