Skullcandy headphones. - July 24th 2009, 01:01 PM

My birthday is coming up and I want some skullcandy headphone because I really don't like my apple ones, I have gone through 2 pairs in about a year and my current pair won't last much longer. I have found some skullcandy headphones which are cheaper or the same price as apple ones so I thought I would try them.

(I want purple ones because my ipod is purple )

I am torn between these two.

Skullcandy Smokin' Buds Earphones 17.99
  • 9mm driver
  • Ear fitting noise reduction sleeve
  • Direct-to-ear high fidelity acoustic
  • In-line volume control
  • Travel case
  • Frequency Response: 100 - 18,000 Hz
  • Impedance: 16 Ohms
  • Ear Coupling: In-Ear
  • Cable: 1.3m
  • Plug Type: 3.5mm
  • Weight: 10g

Skullcandy INK'D 09 Earbuds 14.99
  • 11mm speaker
  • Frequency range 20 - 20k Hz
  • Impedance: 16 ohms
  • Max input power: 100mW
  • Cable Length: 1.3 M
  • Plug type: 3.5mm gold plated

So far I am leaning towards the first pair because on the in line volume control but I don't know what most of those bullet points mean so if anyone can help me choose it would be appreciated.

Thanks

I like how the purple one looks. But then again purple IS my ex-favorite color. xD All of those bullet points are about the sound, I'm guessing. Like, how fast the sound actually travels to your ear and you hear it generally, how loud the sound can get, etc. All of the figures look equal. So now - just go with the cuter one. :P

My sister has Skullcandy headphones. Though they are hella expensive they are top-notch.

Re: Skullcandy headphones. - July 24th 2009, 01:30 PM

I actually have the top ones... and I have some of these
I honestly would never buy apple headphones again, for how much they cost they break really easily! I'm not exactly a tidy person and I'll just chuck headphones in my bag or pocket or whatever and the apple ones break sooo easily.
My skullcandy buds have been going since Christmas and I'm still on my first pair *yay* and my other ones have been going for over a year now (Y)
The sounds quality is just as good, sometimes better sometimes worse depending on what you're listening to, if you like your music really loud (yeah I know its bad for me serious these things are awesome )

They are both purple though just different shades.
These aren't that expensive, apple headphones are 19. These skullcandy ones are meant to be 25 and in HMV they are but play.com is selling them cheaper so that is why I am getting them.

That's what I was thinking. The second pair are closer to the colour of my iPod so that was why I was looking at them but the first pair are nicer, they even look comfier for my ears.

I am going to go with the first pair, for the extra few 's then it is worth it because they are nicer looking and they have the volume control on the wire which will be useful. I can't wait to get them now, only 13 days until my birthday and then I can order them

I had the Smokin Buds and they were awesome. Be warned though, the wire is really thin. I had it for about a year and then accidentally pulled it once and they don't work any more.
I've never tried the INKD range, but according to the bulletpoints, it has a larger speaker (by 2mm) and a wider frequency range. Basically, it's probably a bit louder and you'll get higher highs and deeper basses.

My Skullcandy buds broke the day I got them

I returned them and got $10 JVC Marshmallows instead. Super cheap and durable. Good sound. Now I have like 6 pairs incase they break (and the way I treat my headphones, they do break every few months or so)
