Laptop shutting down...? - August 6th 2009, 02:57 AM

This isn't that much of a problem, but occaisionally, when my laptop goes into sleep mode, it shuts down unexpectedly. Then, I just turn it back on, or it recovers and restarts on its own. I'm wondering what could cause that problem. If it is really nothing, then that's fine, I always have my work saved before leaving my computer anyways.

Oh, and if it helps, I have an Acer Aspire. I don't know much else, sorry.

Is it running out of battery? Mine used to do that a fair bit...

No, it would be plugged in and the battery would be at 100%.

The best advice I can give is call the store you got it from and ask them; they will probably be better able to help you and there might be an explanation.

A)
Go to control panel; Power settings; and now you choose "conserve energy" or something like that.

Now you put stanby mode on "4hrs" in stead of "10 minutes" and shut down on "Never"
Repeat this for "running on battery" and "plugged in"

B) somewhere on your laptop there might be a shortcut button (with a moon on it most likely) you might have hit, search online how to disable this button, or mind never to touch it again.

Could it be over heating?

that's true, that might also be a problem.
If so, Try buying a fan stand or making something so there's air underneath the laptop this way you won't smother it. If it overheats your battery drains faster and at critical temperature it will shut down (except for dells, those keep going )

I know it is not over heating, but I will try the other thing. Thanks.
