What kind of computer do you have? - January 5th 2010, 09:53 PM

I'm interested in seeing what kinds of computers TH has. Post important specs if you know them. Me I'm running a very crappy one:

Dell Dimension 4550
1.99GHz Single Core Processor
77GB HDD 1TB external HDD
1GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 420

I'm hoping to upgrade soon. I'm having trouble with iTunes and Firefox simultaneously .

So what kind of computer do you have?

HP Pavilion Laptop. Don't ever buy one.
Mine takes a few restarts before it stays on completely, and my mom's is doing the same thing.
I'm getting a Macbook for college, though.

I'm slightly ashamed of mine >.> But I got it to run Dragon Age on Medium graphics mostly-smoothly, and I'm damn proud of that. So now the details of my ancient rig.

AMD Athlon 3400+, 2.4Ghz ( )
2GB of DDR RAM (yes...DDR1 ..)
Nvidia Geforce 7600 GS (overclooocked)
Seagate 400GB SATA HDD. (I got this when SATA was new...)
500GB USB portable HDD. (Since more backing storage makes me feel like more of a man >.> )
Crappy, short-of-ports-fiddly-jumpers-motherboard of some description that hates my processor being overclocked...at all. An AMI one of some kind, can't be bothered getting the model number.
Creative Audigy 2 Zs (I actually like this part of my computer...)
600W power supply (and this onne)
Fancy glowing extra case fans <3 (prettty...)

3GB Kingston PC6400 800mHz DDR2
1000GB SATA II
Nvidia 9600GT

I think I did well when with an added last minute 100 pounds bonus, I ended up spending about 420 pounds.. not even gonna ask how much Basil's cost o.o Should be able to run games, at least, so I'm reasonably happy (for now :P)

I've a friend who has a similar rig, 2 9800's though (1 for each screen, different game on each screen - don't ask ). Very capable, I think it can max any current game on 1080p so nice choice!

To explain myself, I don't think I'll be able to afford to upgrade my PC much in college so I sorta went for the high-end...

Whaddya mean? I love this old thing! It's been round the world with me several times, saved me from losing homework credits, and doesn't fail on me too often, I couldn't bear to replace it

I avoid running games, and delete stuff I don't need regularly, and don't have more than about 4 windows open at once... It's never overheated though, and it can take quite a bit of rough and tumble. Apart from having a broken shift key, it's absolutley fine

Pentium III 850MHz
~400Gb DDR RAM
5GB HDD (yes I did eventually upgrade this )
No graphics card (seriously) later upgraded to NVidia GeForce 4 series

And this was... 2-3 years ago?

MetaIce: Achievement Unlocked: RAM Overkill
Epic Boasting rights though .

And it's true though, you don't really need top of the line stuff, or anything approaching it unless you play games or do some other serious work.

And it's true though, you don't really need top of the line stuff, or anything approaching it unless you play games or do some other serious work.
Lol see I was going to go with 6gb but the ram was on sale when I ordered everything and I couldn't help myself. I then paired that with a nice upgraded gigabit LAN and a 50mbps wan link. It suffices I guess

1TB HDD
8GB DDR3 RAM

For gaming? Dual-core instead of quad, less RAM, better graphics!

I want to upgrade to the new Alienware netbook. Be faster than my desktop and give me the portability and battery life I've been looking for. Though ASUS has a gaming netbook coming out with an implementation of switchable graphics that allows it something like 11 hours in gaming mode. Pretty epic. Probably expensive too
