Memory space, help? - February 10th 2010, 04:47 PM

So heres the problem, I will have firefox open. It says it cannot preform the certain tasks because of low memory and has to close.

I seriously don't know what i can do to fix this. The only programs installed are MSN, AIM, IE, Firefox, Opera and iTunes. It's currently running on Windows 7, so could that be it? It just took up a lot of memory? Because originally it was running on Vista and before that Windows XP.

Help?

Ah, you're confusing memory with hard disk space. Memory(or RAM) is where programs go whilst they're running, and hard disk space is where they're stored (sometimes called backing storage).
So basically, what's happening is you're running too many programs at once. These could be programs you're running yourself or things your computer needs to run in the background.
There's various freeware tools you can use that will automatically try and free up some memory for you, I use one myself called Smart RAM, it's quite useful for freeing up RAM from programs that don't clean themselves up after use.
Another solution to this program could be to just restart the computer, since RAM is all deleted when the computer is turned off.

Anyways, I hope this helped =)

Edit: Also, since you seem to have low hard drive space too, I've got a suggestion:
Right click on Local Disk C, go to Properties.
And click on disk cleanup underneath the pie chart, and follow the instructions from there. It should help you get rid of old debris cluttering up your hard disk =).
