Windows Live Messenger - June 1st 2010, 02:09 AM

So, recently my messenger has been acting up. My sounds work, my iTunes works, everything else I can hear. My sound is activated on MSN, I can;t hear anything from MSN though. It won't even play the default sounds. It doesn't make sound when I receive a message either. I use Windows Vista in case anyone needs to know.

My messenger has done that occationally, I don't know how to fix it, I just usually log out and then back on. Or I disable sound and then re-enable it.
It could also be something with Vista, I don't have Vista, so I'm not 100 percent sure if it's something with that or not but it's a possibility.

Did you check your sound options on Vista? Click the Speaker, then the "Mixer", and check if Windows Live Messenger has any volume or not.

Thats the only thing I can think of, personally.

Hm, and maybe another application is set to be allowed to take exclusive control of your system sound? Skype does this sometimes for me, but it might be another program.

My mixer isn't the issue, but thank you. I've been in the background and sounds it just doesn't seem to want to work.

Ahh, fair enough. Check the settings for various applications you might have running in the background though, some of them might be set to make it so only they can use sound. Or maybe it's a bug of some kind >.>.

I'm thinking try the checking-other-apps thing first, and if not, maybe reinstall your sound drivers?

Do they work when you're set to online?

Re: Windows Live Messenger - June 3rd 2010, 12:41 AM

This happened to me before but stopped when I updated msn.

I know a new windows live messenger plus update is out so if you have plus and haven't updated it then you could try that.
