bluescreen... laptops going wrong :( - January 24th 2011, 08:58 PM

So i'm technologically stupid and really need help.

I've done virus scans using spybot and can't find anything. But an AVG shield keeps coming up saying threat detected- yet it won't let me remove the file.

It's been going on for about a week now. Internet won't start unless i restart the computer each time. Then it randomly stops on me.

Plus about twice an hour my laptop bluescreens, so i have to turn it of. I also occasionally get a windows pop up saying that it closed a programme and did i want updates- yet the link to the updates doesnt work

What's going on? How do i fix it... HELLP? x

Hey Maia, it does sound like you might have a virus or other malware.

I'm no longer certified, experienced enough, or feel confident enough to help with any malware problems, and I don't know of anyone on this board who is.

Please follow the instructions here. These people are professional malware removers. I used to work with them; they are truly excellent at what they do.

Good luck.

It's possible that your hard drive is failing. The "Blue Screen of Death" is a sign of hard drive failure. It happened to my old desktop for about six months before it finally just died.

But going along with Malware, I've had Malware before, and it's not pretty. Since you're receiving the messages about updates and all, I'll say it's very possible that it's Malware. When I had Malware, though, the message that my computer was infected with viruses kept coming up.

I used this and it seemed to do the trick:

If I remember right, you should run it in safe mode.
