GIF files. - February 25th 2011, 01:14 PM

How can I make an animated GIF file? I want to upload an animated picture to my signiture; I've got the individual frames but I can't upload it as a movie. Anyone know how I can make one from scratch?

Try out this site: http://www.makeagif.com/

I haven't used that one before, but it seems like it should do what you want. If not, there are tons of programs out there that can be used to make GIFs, I've used one called AniMagic (I think) in the past.

You could download a Trail for Animation Shop 3. That's what I use.

If you already have individual frames, then I would recommend Photoscape.

Photoscape is an image suite full of features like adding frames, batch editors, callouts and quotes, etc. (check the samples at the bottom of its home page to see what Photoscape is capable of). Of course, you can make animated GIF on it, too; many options for animation are available, such as fade, scroll, slide, etc.

Some free alternatives include:
  • UnFREEz: Free but outdated GIF animator. It doesn't have any advanced feature.
  • FalcoGIFAnimator: Many basic features but this program was built toward working with small images (like icons), rather than big images.
  • Picasion: It is web-based so you won't need to download or install anything. You can only upload up to 10 frames.

Personally, I would prefer GIMP or Photoshop, simply because they allow more customization and have more features. But both of which are complex programs with steep learning curve, which would take a long time to learn and master.
