Unhappy My earbuds always die - March 8th 2011, 02:08 AM

Ok, so I listen to my ipod A LOT, and my earbuds always die! First it'll get fuzzy and then one bud will die. Twisting the cord around helps a little. I can't afford to keep going through earbuds like this, i went through a pair of apple, skullcandy, another kind of earbud(i forget the brand), and a pair of koss headphones.

Does anybody have any suggestions? Should I just invest in more expensive earbuds? Will regular headphones last longer than earbuds?

Invest in better quality headphones, I'd avoid skullcandy at all cost, they always break.
Also, try and take better care of them when you're not using them, like keeping them untangled and not bending the cables all the time.

Yup, tell me about it. They always die. I'm on my third set of earplugs with my iPhone. Guarantee for the win. :P I always get new ones for free.

Get some proper headphones instead. Sony, Sennheiser, Shure and Grado make quality products, some of which are reasonably priced, too.

You should definitely get normal headphones... I suggest Sony or Sennheiser.

Not only will they last 10x longer and give you a far better quality of sound, they will protect your ears! Have you ever considered what you're doing to your ears shoving earbuds straight into them and blasting music directly into it? Not good.

Skullcandy is a terrible brand. All looks and no function as far as I'm concerned.

I personally use and really like JVC Marshmallows. Thy're durable and you can get them for real cheap ($5-$20 generally).

I use to always have exactly the same problem. At first it would crackle and cut out in one ear and then after a while I'd get no sound out of it all together. I use to have the same brands of headphones as you, Apple and Skullcandy but they would always fail on me within a couple of months. I think you have to buy a quality pair of headphones because even though they're expensive you definitely get what you pay for. I have a pair of Diddy Beats at the moment which are really good as the socket that you plug into your iPod is at a right angle so if it gets caught then it comes out of the iPod rather than pulls and damages the wires inside.

I had the same problem, and I went through five earbuds in a year.

I would definitely suggest headphones, if you're not fussed about carrying them around your neck for long periods of time. The sound quality is better from my experiences too. I wouldn't suggest Sony as I have had a pair break on me because the ear adjustment piece was very thin and fragile. Make sure that the headphones that you get are sturdy if you choose that route. I have a pair of Sennheiser headphones and they're great.

This is the one I currently have: http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/produ...358227e3d9en02

These were the air that broke one me: http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/produ...6055dccfeden02

p.s. I notice the price difference, and in most cases you will have to pay more for higher quality headphones.

Haha only? I have something like 10 pairs that only play in one ear. I run a lot and I listen to music when I do and I think that is part of why they die fast.
