I know there are poké-fans here I thought I'd make this thread as I got bored last night and started playing Leaf Green again. Thing is I've completed it about 4-5 times so I thought I'd spice it up and play the Nuzlocke Challenge. If you don't know what the Nuzlocke Challenge is, it's this:

I'm only playing with the two main rules. I actually had to start another game as my rival defeated me at the very first battle Critical hits freaking suck.

So far I'm not doing too bad. I did want to catch a Pikachu in Viridian Forrest but got stuck with a Caterpie, grrrr. At least none of my Pokemon have died yet

You can do whatever you want with your Pokemon as long as you follow those rules.

Roms ftw I kind of wish I started this challenge with a ROM now. I miss the space/speed up button

These are the only rules that I've personally applied to myself:

• Never use potions and healing items; only use Pokémon Centers for healing. (I still use permanent stat-increase items like the vitamins, though )
• Never use hold items.
• Never use Master Balls.
• Never use legendaries (I still catch them).

• Never replace my first pokemon; always keep it in my main team of 6.
• Never use Ultra Ball on pokemons below level 50.

I find these rules balance things out very well. The game doesn't become too frustrating, but it also doesn't feel too easy.

I like the pokemons in generation 1. But the new generations added MANY more moves and abilities into the pool, making team strategy planning a lot more fun.

Charmander ---> because it'll evolve into the fierce Fire/Flying Charizard! (If we have Generation 5 moves and ability, then I definitely would go for Venusaur instead.)

It sucks that ability and nature are only introduced in gen 3, though .

My generation 1 team with generation 1 move sets (non-competitive play):

#1. Charizard: Flamethrower, Earthquake, Body Slam, Sword Dance
#2. Starmie: Surf, Thunderbolt, Recover, Thunder Wave
#3. Gengar: Confuse Ray, Explosion, Hypnosis, Toxic
#4. Rhydon: Earthquake, Rock Slide, Substitute, Dig
#5. Chansey: Softboiled, Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, Thunder Wave

#6. HM Slave : Changes throughout the game.

Status alignment helps catch pokemon easier. So I have 2 Thunder Waves to cause paralysis. For pokemon that aren't affected by Thunder Wave, I've got Hypnosis to cause sleep; if both fails, I still have Toxic to cause poison. I rarely have a problem catching non-legendary pokemon


Charizard is, of course, my first pokemon (final evolution of Charmander). So it takes a special place within the team. I enjoy this mixed-sweeper/sword-dancer build.

Starmie holds surf, enough said. Although low HP stat, Starmie has Recover and Thunder Wave, which gives it a second chance against paralyzed pokemons. Besides, I also have Chansey with Thunder Wave and Gengar with Hypnosis. So my Starmie usually switches in on pokemon already suffering status alignment.

Gengar is mainly a backup status-alignment deliverer (when Thunder Wave fails). Because it is so fragile with low HP and defense stats, Explosion comes in handy when I know that it's about to faint.

Rhydon is in the team instead of a Dragonite because both Charizard and Starmie are weak to electric attacks (and Gengar is so fragile). And Dig is there to help me escape caves quickly when needed.

Chansey makes up for Gengar's low HP and defenses. With high HP and Special Defense stats, Chansey is a great staller. It can also be used to weaken wild pokemon (because it has low attacks) to catch easier.


HM slave is, obviously, a good-for-nothing pokemon that learn HMs only. I need the HMs to get through the game, but darn, they suck!

I always pick Charmander.
It's my favorite one, other than pikachu.
I like fire types haha.
But Soul Silver and Heart Gold used a lot of the old pokemon, but they added some new ones to it too, I think.

I love Pokemon but I never had anything to play it on, then when I got my DS, I didn't have any games. Thank god my dad just got me White Version and Black Version for Christmas! Not as awesome as the originals I bet but I am so happy just to have it, I've made it furthest on Black so far, total of over 12 hours since yesterday I think. But now I'm stuck on battling N... I hate N...

At the amusement park in I think it's Nimbasa City? Something like that, where you find out he's king of team plasma. Yeah, I cannot for the life of me beat him, I've paid thousands in lost battles and no matter what I can never beat him, closest I've gotten was his last pokemon with almost full life...

[EDIT]: Well finally got past N, now I'm stuck on gym leader Elesa... More thousands have been paid out for continually losing... I'm going to run out of money...
