False Alarm? Or real problem? -
February 6th 2012, 03:06 AM
Hey guys,
Okay, so I haven't gone on the computer for a few days but I decided I wanted to go on today--that's the first thing you need to know. Anyway, so when my computer was turning on I decided that I was hungry so I went to grab something to eat quickly. When I came back I was about to do something and looked to see if my volume was turned on but looking at the bottom right corner. While do that, I caught a glimpse of the Action Center tab, and I saw that it had a red X on it so I was like "Whats going on!?" and I clicked on it, when the bubble got bigger I tried to read it but the red X disappeared and said "No issues detected". However, even though I wasn't able to read all of it in the 1.5 seconds it was showing I was able to catch a few words: "3 (notice the difference from what I said above?) issues detected" and I also caught the words "Spyware" and...okay I swear I saw something else but I can't remember. The point is--it freaked me out, and since I'm a very anxious person I started to panic. I tried to Google an answer to make me feel better, but I didn't know how to word it, so I came here. Is this normal? Is it bad? Am I screwed? Could it be that stupid Windows Live Messenger thing? The day before I turned my computer off for a while it said that my AntiVirus program had blocked something from there. I panicked then too, but I scanned my computer and nothing showed up on that. So...I don't know. I am seriously freaking out and I don't know what on earth I can do right now because for the past month I've been absolutely terrified of my computer because the whole virus thing started to really just scare me more then ever. Can someone please help me? I'm scared and I try really hard to make sure my computer is always taken care of, I don't want any issues with it...ever again. I am currently scanning it right now, and I'll put up what it says when I'm done just in case. Thanks! I will forgive, but I'll never forget.

#1: Please do tell what antivirus program you currently using. And if possible, check the quarantined list of that antivirus.
#2: Download Malwarebytes, install it, then run it. It'll ask you to update the definition when you launched it, please do so. Afterward, perform a quick scan with Malwarebytes. (Note: Don't bother running a full scan; it isn't any better than a quick scan.) While it isn't 100% bullet-proof, Malwarebytes is a good complement to your default antivirus program. If both your trusted antivirus and Malwarebytes agree that your computer is safe, then it's probably is. Again, they might be wrong sometimes, but at least you would have two opinions by then. If you really want to have a third opinion, you can download (this is a portable version so do NOT try to install it, just download it) SuperAntispyware (portable version) ---> Disconnect your computer from the internet ---> Then run SuperAntispyware portable. After it's done, DELETE it immediately; don't bother keeping that around. #3: For future reference, you can save yourself a lot of time and trouble by just tell us the useful info. You typed 4 paragraphs here, but only one paragraph contains any useful info at all. That's very inefficient. (No offense, just a suggestion )

Okay, so after my I scanned my computer (which took a very long time) it said that it picked nothing up. I run McAfee BTW, so I don't know if that generally means anything. It had been a good week since I'd last ran my computer at the time, so I'm a little paranoid. Viruses can't go on a computer that is turned off right? I never thought that was possible and I still don't think its possible.
I will forgive, but I'll never forget.
