Explain to me the whole Goth style please - April 11th 2013, 12:01 AM

-I do not intend any of this to come across as offensive in any way, I'm simply curious -

I saw this girl the other day wearing these huge black boots that buckle up to the knee and have springs (...?) in the bottom. They looked really uncomfortable and heavy. She was really thin too and I thought they were going to snap her legs off.
I also see a lot of people wearing long leather coats... even when it's absolutely boiling...why?
I was just wondering what is the appeal of wearing things like that? Is it personal preference? Or?

Everyone's clothing style is based on personal preference, so I suppose that would be why. I personally only like wearing things that are comfortable, though.

Being a person who loves this style, I'd say it's really just your own personal preference and sense of fashion. That's just the clothes I like and they actually are much more comfortable than you would think.

Cheye is right; I love this style, and although it may not look it, it's very comfortable. It's all about each individual's sense of style and what they like. Some people love this style, some hate it. Like I've already said, I personally love it.

because who doesn't want to look this awesome all the time?

Kidding aside, people all have their own taste in what they like. Everyone has their own way they want to look and how to look awesome, and they go for it.

Agreeing with people here, I'm considered goth or punk or I think someone called me "alternative" once too, so I love the gothic look, a ton! Leather jackets and combat boots and lots of rings and darkness, can't get enough
It really is what they like though, what makes them feel best in their own body.

....not to mention I'm almost uncomfortable in comfortable clothing, sometimes anyway stressful days, some nice sweatpants or huge t-shirts do me well

All it is is personal preference, sure there will be people who do it just to look edgy but most people who dress that style are doing it because it's what appeals to them. I dabble occasionally in the Goth style, and it's just because I find it appealing.

the shoes you're referring to are New Rocks, yeah they are heavy, but they are comfy and look awesome! I don't get the leather jackets myself, but they do look hot hehe..
It's personal preference completely.. Just like those who always wear trakkies n such.. and the clothes are super comfy..

Pretty much. To me, something light, airy, dressy, casual, ext would just make me uncomfortable. I loveee this style, but unfortunatly finding the kind of things that fit me are difficult(and VERY expensive) so I just sort of chill in an offshoot style. It still fits me and is comfortable, so I dont really complain. Its all just how you feel and what suits you

I get the look, but I don't understand people ever wearing uncomfortable clothes. This goes to other styles as well. Heals were basically invented so that women have a harder time running, I mean, seriously. I aint got time for those.

I think everyone wears their clothing based on personal things. What they're into, their style etc...

It all depends. And actually the boots and coats are more a cyber-punk/cyber goth thing. Since the goth style itself originally is supposed to be more medieval styled. i.e. corset tops. The goth style is more elegant yet dark. So it's mostly people just following a genre or an image. It might not make sense to you but they typically have a reason or image in mind when they dress themselves. No matter how impractical it might be.

I'll do whatever it takes to be the mistake you can't live without.
