guys fashion basics - December 30th 2009, 04:09 AM

i've been a nerdy guy most of my life, but as of recently, i've become a lot less geeky, and am now concerned about my image. I've never really been a good dresser, so i would like some help on how to dress. are there any sites/tips you can give me on beginning to dress well? just for starters, i have converse's, boot cut jeans, all types of shirts. i have an athletic body if that changes anything.

Converses, Jeans and Shirts are great !! Honestly - I love a guy in a shirt.
Just choose a style you like and copy it! Don't try and dress and be someone your not.

If you like shirts wear them! If you like Band Tee's wear them! Just show who you are through your clothing. Maybe Google some fashion sites to get ideas??

Hope this helps a bit.

-For shirts I wear band t-shirts, plain purple, and plain white.
-For pants I wear black skinny jeans mostly.
-Converse don't fit my foot shape, I wear black new balance. Also have these cool marine boots.
-I also go back and forth between blonde highlights.

I have a skinny frame as well, so basically I come off as a hugeee hipster with my clothes. A lot of other guys will think that you look like a douche, because you put some effort into your clothing, but I find that girls like you more.

http://lookbook.nu/ that'll give you a few ideas..

i'd stay away from converse though.. although i am a little bias because personally i think they are weird looking.

You can google all of this. Personally, I was like you when it came to fashion. I used to not care, then I found that I got a more positive response from people by dressing nicely, and having "style". I'll list what I tend to wear, generally, from the bottom up.

- Converse All Stars
- Vans Authentics
- Vans Slip Ons
- Nike High Tops
- PF Flyers
- Keds Champions

- Slim Fit Dress Pants
- Slim Straight Jeans (Zack Style from Bluenotes)
- Plaid/Striped Shorts

- Plain Cloth/Leather Belts

- Fitted, Plaid Dress Shirts
- Plain, solid colour Hoodies (American Apparel)
- Plain, Solid Colour V-necks/Crew Necks
- Graphic T-Shirts (BustedTees, Urban Outfitters)
- Men's Cardigans (Generally from The Gap)

Generally, I have my hair medium length and messy. When I get it cut, I have it cut short and fauxhawk it.

- Fitted Gangstaaaa hats
- Plain, large beanies

As far as piercings/tattoos go, I have an earring in each ear, and will be getting a half-sleeve tattoo on my left arm.

Re: guys fashion basics - January 8th 2010, 01:47 AM

@ Larrel.. damn that looks as long as my "girls fashion complicated" lol.

-I would just get some nice fitting jeans from somewhere where they're still sturdy. Gap? Levis? Don't spend more than 30 dollars though. Not worth it, look for sales. Not a big fan of bootcut or skinny on guys, I just like normal straight leg.

-Get some nice fitting plain tee shirts. I say nice fitting because they should show off your athletic body and be semi-fitted but not too tight. Don't have them bell out /____\ at the bottom too much or look like a bag. You COULD get the American Apparel Unisex tee, or maybe a Threadless Tee, or you could just go to the salvation army and try on some until you find a nice fit.

-Get some sweaters if where you live is cold. I like sweaters that are merino wool, hand wash cold, or Merino + something and machine wash, dry flat. Follow the instructions or else you might as well use the sweater to dress your pet rabbit. It will shrink.

-SHOES. Woe is me. Don't get converse, I think they're overpriced and dinky and will fall apart, which is not "cool" to me. Just get nice looking normal sneakers. To me, nice is just not too grey and boring, but not too crazy and weird. I don't like skate shoes, I think they're silly unless you skate.

Pah, that's not too hard. Lol.
