Scene? -
February 6th 2010, 01:42 PM
Sorry to smack a label on this but it's about the best I can do.
I've followed the whole "scene" stereotype clothing before and while I've stopped a lot, I miss some aspects of it, though I'm not sure which. I guess I want to get back in the style of it a bit but make it more individual. Do you guys have any suggestions? I guess a few of my questions would be... What bottoms could I wear besides skinny jeans? How can I style and color my hair appropriate for Catholic school? My makeup always smudges no matter what brand I use. Any tips? Any good stores that sell clothing CHEAP? Literally ANYTHING else you can suggest would be muchly appreciated! |

I don't understand why people feel the need to slap a label on themselves.
I personally love fashion, clothes and whatnot. And I do like what people class under the 'scene-kid' thing, but everyone is doing it. It seems nobody has a sense of their own style these days, which makes me sad. Can't you just wear clothes you like? If this involves scene clothes, then thats fine. For instance, if you went through my wardrobe I have clothes that would fit into all forms of steriotypes, goth, grunge, emo, scene, chav even. But I work it all together to make something unique. Just, go with what feels right and what you think looks good on you. Not on everyone else. Fashion is an art form, a way of expressing yourself. If you went into an art class and everyone was panting exactly the same painting, you'd say its not art if they're all copying each other, wouldn't you? In case you didn't actually read this, I'm not trying to stereotype or smack a label on myself, but there's really no other way for me to describe it. And I understand what you're saying, but it's a style I particularly like and want to reintegrate into my own while still keeping my individuality of style.

for the makeup thing.. spray hairspray on your face to set your makeup.. make sure you don't get it in your eyes or mouth though. it sounds crazy but it's what i do and it works. : )

Ok, hairspray on your face.. lol Elle... that's dangerous! That stuff is not supposed to go on your face skin, especially because shit leaches through Use a primer? Or wear less makeup.
As for clothes, take it easy. Go to vintage places and stores like salvation army, hunt around without expecting to find much. Go to places like Zara and urban outfitters and shop the sale section, never pay full price for anything unless you feel like you have to have it for a really good reason. Spend some time looking in the mirror and decide what makes you look best, and what you feel best wearing, and wear that. If it's skinnies, it's skinnies.. but it could be bootcut, or it could even be skirts. See what things make you look fit, what things make you look not fit, try to choose outfits that highlight what you have on your body, not what's in style. I think that trends are hard to follow, it's a lot better just to cultivate a strong sense of thrifty, relaxed, personal style. It's hard to make a recipe for the ideal daily uniform, mostly because good fashion is so wily. I would invest some time and money into a few things that are nice looking and practical, and then build your wardrobe around them. I am waylaid by Beauty. Who will walk Between me and the crying of the frogs? (My PM box is always open.. if I can't help you, I'll find someone who can) |
