Make-up tested on animals - December 9th 2010, 08:14 PM

I'm quite against businesses testing cosmetics on animals :| I would never wear fur/real leather either. Problem is I'm not 100% sure what brands test on animals and what doesn't :/ Could people please post me some brands I could buy in the UK that don't test on animals.

LUSH, E.L.F and The Body Shop are the first two that pop into my mind.

Although the body shop is one to be cautious of, they do not test on animals but are owned by L'Oreal who do test on animals so if you buy any body shop products the money goes to L'Oreal so that one is a personal choice.

This link has all the companies who do test on animals.

Why would you test makeup on animals? To make them look purty?

The only thing I could agree with being testing on animals is soaps and shampoos, because i've seen lots of people use human products on animals. And i'd rather have one animal possibly be harmed, then potentially thousands.

I know on Superdrug's home brand products they say they're against testing on animals but I'm not sure if this means the brands they sell don't test.

The body shop's the only thing I can think of at the moment.

I hate it :|

here's a website I have been looking at ... http://shopcrueltyfree.peta2.com/cru...at_5&Dotest=-1.

But be careful, I think some stuff may upset animals lovers.

Most products that aren't tested on animals will say so on their packaging. If you're not sure, read the back to see if it says "Not tested on animals" or something like that, although it is sometimes in small text. If it says "against animal testing" that doesn't really mean anything. Legally, they could be "against" animal testing but still be selling products that are tested on animals. Be wary of legal loopholes like that. I have this really nice shampoo and conditioner that I buy from a salon. It's kind of expensive but it is not tested on animals, plus it isn't full of chemical crap that hurts the environment. It is the best shampoo I have ever had, my hairdresser recommended it to me.

They test on animals to see if it causes any adverse effects. That can be stuff like skin irritation, although I have heard of testing involving cruel things such as holding open an animal's eyes and pouring the products into it to see what happens. That, among other disturbing things. It is unnecessary to test on animals, but it is cheaper than the alternative which is why many companies do.

Wow O____O I always thought that meant they didn't test on animals either :/

Edit: Does anyone know of an anti-dandruff shampoo that doesn't test on animals? it's just I told my mum about the brands that do and she wants to buy new shampoo.

I don't know if you can get it in the UK but i use Nature's Gate products for shampoo and conditioner. They have different types for different kinds of hair or the more general for "all types".
