Angry God Awful Skin - May 15th 2011, 06:32 AM

It started when I was around 10. My skin started getting really oily. But I didnt start breaking out until I was 11.
Now, it's my worst nightmare. Mostly in my "T-Zone" and a little in the crevices of my nose.
I do a power foam scrub, then a regular face scrub by Netrogenia. Every now and then I do a clay mask and let it sit for about 15 minutes and then I wash it off. And then I finish off with this layer of gel/oil thing also by Netrogenia.
But no. It's still oily, bumpy, and blotchy on my forehead, crevices of my nose, inner cheeks, and chin.
HEELP! Any recipes, or products you use, I will be open to
And yes, I have talked to my doctor about it, and she considered Birth Control but I'm not so open to that.... heh.
I really want to see a dermatologist. :P

Seeing a dermatologist would be best. Have you asked your parents?
As for your skin, I wouln't use too many scrubs on it because those can be harsh on your skin. I use Neutrogena's soothing redness relief with aloe and it works very well. I hate to sound like a telemarketer, but it makes my skin soft and healthy.
Use that twice a day with a good moisturizer and get a spot treatment to use daily. Both stylistic acid and benzyl peroxide will dry out your zits.
Putting some ice on problem spots will help shrink them too.
And lastly, make sure to change your pillow case, eat healthy, and don't touch your face.

Good luck

I just wanted to add on to what Nicole said and say if you wear any make up like powder or foundation then try to cut down on those too so they don't clog up your pores

I've had mild-severe acne since I was around 10. It's pretty miserable, so I definitely can relate with the desperation you're feeling. I'll touch upon a couple of things:

Skin care:
I've tried practically ever face wash ever and I'll tell you what products I've found to work the best over the years. Keep in mind that everyone's skin is different and a dermatologist may give you very different recommendations, but if you can't end up seeing one, these are some general things that are good to do.

Don't wash your face more than twice a day. It can be tempting, especially with oily and acne-prone skin, but over-washing can psyche out your skin and make it think it needs to produce more sebum (oil), which, in result, makes you oilier.
Avoid face washes with active ingredients. Avoid harsh chemicals like salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide. These are alright options if you have quite mild acne or a spot or two you want to take care of, but can be much to harsh on skin and cause redness, sensitivity, and over-production of sebum. I used washes with salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide for ages until I went to a dermatologist and she recommended I switch to a face wash without active ingredients. Right now, I use Basis Cleaner Clean Face Wash. It's great for oily, acne-prone skin. I've probably been using this for about three years, which is saying something since I use most products for around a month at absolute most.
If you have a scrub you like, use it only once a week. Scrubs, again, can cause your skin to over-produce sebum, though they are really great for getting rid of dead skin. An exception to this is if the scrub says it's gentle enough for daily use, otherwise really try not to use it too much.
Always use a moisturizer. This may seem counter-productive since you have oily skin, but using a moisturizer will actually provide balance and tell your skin that it doesn't need to produce so much oil. That said, do get a moisturizer for oily skin.
Invest in a toner and spot treatment. This is where I do use a little bit of salicylic acid in my routine because I only use a little bit and only on bad spots. I'm currently using a toner and spot treatment by Clinique from their Acne Solutions line. Spot treatment is probably one of the most important parts of your routine if you have acne, so do your research on makeupalley.com or drugstore.com and find products that people have liked. You'll probably have better results with either salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide, so try out both and see which your skin reacts better with.

One other thing I have to say is that, while not necessary, I've been using a Clarisonic for about two years and that in combination with my Basis face wash have worked absolute wonders. Literally I can't even explain how horrible and painful my acne used to be and it's so much more manageable now. Clarisonics are quite expensive, but I think they're worth it if you use them every day. Pretty much, it's a big round electric toothbrush for your face, so it cleans really really well.

Makeup:
Put on a clear spot treatment under any makeup you wear. Wear some sunscreen (it doesn't have to be SPF 100+, it can just be SPF 15 or something). Wear makeup that's non-comedogenic (doesn't clog pores). Always wash off your makeup before sleeping. Try to use loose powder foundation as opposed to pressed powder or liquid, which have oils in them.

Dermatologists:
You'll most likely be prescribed a topical cream or two, possibly an antibiotic depending on the severity of your acne. If they try to get you on birth control, leave. It's one thing for a doctor to bring that up, though, personally, I think it's dumb to go on birth control literally just to control acne, but having a dermatologist recommend that is silly, so leave if you end up seeing one who tries to get you to do that. Dermatology can be very expensive, from appointments to medications, so keep in mind that your parents may have a hard time paying for things, especially if you don't use the medications. In other words, try to understand why your parents may be skeptical about seeing a dermatologist and if you get medications, use them.

I'll see you on the other side.

there is a facemask recipe i use sometimes that works great for me, use it once or twice a week. this should be enough for a few masks btw

one mashed avocado
a tablespoon of honey
half a lemon squeezed
a pinch of sugar
a tablespoon olive oil

mix them all up, and put it in the fridge. put it on cold, leave it for about 15 minutes, then wash it off with cold water. then put lotion on :P

On the outside I'm smiling,
but inside im crying.
I'm silent, but screaming,
I'm so slowly dying.
