Clothes and Makeup for a Picky Tomboy? - July 8th 2011, 08:35 PM

Ok, first off I fail at fashion. My wardrobe usually involves a geeky, graphic tee (unisex) and loose pants. I have short hair, and I want to keep it that way, but I've been feeling...ugly I guess lately. I'm just not satisfied with myself and how I look. I want to have a style I guess, that has a slightly feminine flair. Now, before I do anything else, I hate doing this to you all, but I need to tell everyone what I WON'T do:

*Women's cut tee's (don't like to expose my chest and I feel like my circulation is cut off since they're SO tight and uncomfortable)

*Pants without pockets big enough to fit things in (my cell phone sticks half way out of most form-fitting jeans)

*Pink anything

*Frilly and poofy crap

*Dresses or skirts (I feel naked in them...)

Just to give you an idea of how new and awkward this is for me. I only JUST started wearing an underwire bra about a month ago. I'm considering makeup as long as I feel it on my face as little as possible. I know I probably sound impossible, but I feel like I really need help feeling at least moderately pretty...for my own self-esteem if anything. If it helps, I do like button-down shirts...and denim...among other things. Sorry for being so difficult but I'm at a loss. Any makeup advice is also appreciated.

For the make up, you could try wearing just a little pencil eye liner or mascara. This makes your eyes stand out more but you can put as little on as you want and it doesn't cake your face in makeup.

I have short hair, and usually I don't do anything to it. Sometimes I wear a bow in it, but that would probably be too girly for you. If dying it is an option, you could dye it an interesting colour. My friend is quite a tomboy but made her short hair look interesting by dying it green and blue.

You could try wearing hats (not frilly ones ), for example a trilby or a fedora. You can get these types of hats from a lot of general clothing stores or accessories stores. They can make your style more unique without looking girly.

Also, you could wear the same tops, but go for a denim jacket or something similar over the top, if you don't already, to add a bit more to the outfit.

Hope I helped...
