Outfit - opinions? -

This thread has been labeled as triggering, particularly on the subject of self harm, by the original poster or by a Moderator. The contents of this thread might therefore not be suitable for certain sensitive users. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.
So, I'm going to a party. It's a themed party, so I have to dress up. I didn't have anything that suited the theme, so my mother went and bought some clothes for me. Which was nice of her, but has now put me in an awkward situation.
See, the outfit she bought looks good, but I'm not sure I want to wear it. My main problem is that the shorts are, well, short. Way shorter than what I'd usually wear, and I'm not sure I feel comfortable in them. Added to that is the fact that you can see my old self harm scars - which I haven't shown anyone before. Granted, I'll be wearing tights, so they aren't too noticeable, and it'll be dark for most of it, so chances are people won't even realise. But I'm still not sure I feel ready to reveal them like that. So, what do you guys think? Should I wear the shorts or not? If I don't, how can I explain it to my mother? Nothing in the world is the way it ought to be. It's harsh, and cruel. But that's why there's us - champions. Doesn't matter where we come from, what we've done or suffered, or even if we make a difference. We live as though the world is as it should be, to show it what it can be. |

Can you wear opaque black/dark tights? That way, they shouldn't be able to be seen at all.
Of course, it all comes down to what you feel comfortable in. Personally, I always hated shorts until I got a pair and started wearing them. But I always wear mine with tights because I don't really like my thighs and my legs are very pale. Maybe you could just wear the shorts one day and see how you feel at the end of it? It's always going to be uncomfortable wearing new things that you aren't used to, but I definitely think you should give it a chance. If you don't wear them, just explain to your mother that even though you really appreciated her gift, you didn't feel comfortable wearing something so short. Perhaps you could even go out with her to buy something different for the bottom part of the outfit? Dreaming about the day When you wake up and find That what you're looking for Has been here the whole time. |

Thank you for the replies. It means a lot.
![]() I'll be wearing tights underneath them, but they can't be dark because that would completely go against the theme of the party. ![]() My problem with talking to my mother is that I think she knows why I'm uncomfortable wearing them. When I said I didn't want to wear them, she told me just to try them on anyway, and then I'm pretty sure she was looking at my scars. She knows I used to self harm, of course, but I think she thinks that I'm still doing it or something. Anyway. I guess I can't hide my scars forever, right? I'm not sure if this will help, but I imagine flesh coloured/nude stockings would help cover up the scars.

I agree, tights will help cover them. Go with a skin color one to make it look more natural

Thank you all.
![]() As it turns out, though, the weather's suddenly got colder and it's actually too cold to wear the shorts, so I needn't have worried. Thanks anyway though. ![]() This can be closed now.
