Fashion vs. Style -
January 27th 2012, 08:53 PM
Here's a good question. How many of you know the difference between fashion and style?
And if you know the difference. Are you all about fashion, or style? For me. I am a firm believer in style. I am not into fashion what so ever.
Pansexual. Problematically Pierced. Disturbed and Depressed. And a Lost Realist. Got a question? I might just have an answer. Feel free to PM me. ![]() |

Okay, as an unfashionable and unstyleish person I'm going to make a guess. (Seriously, I have more t-shirts with logo's from those free things than any one person should.)
Fashion: What you wear, what is fashionable in the clothing world. Style: The way you carry yourself, more than just clothing. In a world filled with diversity, I am just another oddity.

So, what is the true difference then?
I would have guessed the same as above posters. Fashion to me is like clothes in general and whats 'in' and style is certain types of clothes, such as girl or indie. ![]() Buddy|Live Help Operator|HelpLink Mentor|Social Networking Team Relationships&Dating Mod|Lifestyle Mod|Media&Entertainment Mod Performance Committee |

Honestly, it's up to each person to define words in their own way. Especially when it comes to terms like "fashion" and "style". Each person views it differently, and while there is a set definition, I don't believe the definition is correct for everyone.
To me, fashion is what is popular, and style is how you dress and carry yourself. Fashion would be related to "fashion shows" (which never make any sense, no one actually wears those crazy outfits) and what most people are wearing, or what is "cool" to wear among the "popular" students, if we're to relate it to school, seeing as most people here are in school. Style would be related to labels and stereotypes, emo, goth, preppy, ext. You can have a style, and be fashionable. Or you can have a style, and not be fashionable at all. ![]() Take me seriously. I dare you. |

I was watching "The Roommate" and the main character was taking a fashion design class. And this topic was brought up. Then I did further research on it. So I wanted to know what other people's definitions were.
So from what I found: Fashion = Is about following. What's "in" and following that. Style = Is having what you wear reflect your personality. Having those as closely knit as possible. Style can not be copied and is all you. If someone starts "attempting" to recreate your style. It can become fashion. And as baby eater said it is true, because someone could have a fashionable personality. So they can fall into both. Overall I just found the entire topic interesting and wanted to see what other's thought. =P Pansexual. Problematically Pierced. Disturbed and Depressed. And a Lost Realist. Got a question? FASHION IS WHAT IS CONSIDERED 'COOL' OR 'IN' RIGHT NOW. STYLE IS HAVING AN IDEA OF EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT TO LOOK LIKE AND NOT CARING WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING OR THINKING. I WOULD LOVE TO SAY I HAVE THE COURAGE TO FOLLLOW MY OWN STYLE, BUT I DON'T. SO I HAVE TO SAY I FOLLOW MORE FASHION BECAUSE I CARE TOO MUCH ABOUT WHAT PEOPLE THINK =/
FROZEN inside, without your TOUCH. Without your LOVE. Darling, only you are the LIFE among the DEAD. |
