Bleach question. - February 5th 2013, 04:46 PM

Okay so Iíve just used some colour remover and I need to lighten my hair before putting on my purple dye.

Most of my hair is a kind of golden ginger colour currently but my roots are dark brown to medium brown.

How should I apply the bleach? Usually it says to apply to the roots last but because of the colour difference between my roots and the rest of the hair if I apply it all in one go will this even out and all be around the same colour or not?

Here's a picture of what my hair is like atm just in case it helps :

My darkest roots are just behind my ear so I've tried to show that as best I can

I got my hair bleached a while ago to dye it purple, and my best advice is to go to a hairdresser if you're not sure what you're doing. You can tell in our school who got it done professionally and who didn't because it tends to look better (no offence, it can look decent done at home too). It's not that expensive either, and if you ask me it's worth it

If you're set on doing it yourself, I'd recommend applying it all over up to the roots, and maybe washing out the bottom part first and leaving it on the roots a little longer, so they go paler and your hair should all end up mostly the same colour. You can always do it twice if you want it paler afterwards (just make sure you wait a bit for your hair to recover).

I'm perfectly normal; it's the rest of the world that's insane.

Since your head is warm, it tends to cause dyes and bleaches to work faster. So I would do your hair first and then your roots last. That should cause it to lighten evenly.

And here you are living, despite it all.

I agree with Nicole. Bleach it like you normally would. You can always rinse the ends out if you need to and wait for the roots to even out.

Okay thanks guys, I did end up doing it normally. Sadly the purple didn't turn out great so instead of having bright purple I had to put some dark purple on to make it look better. Oh well it still looks good
