Gingery blonde to just blonde? - March 2nd 2014, 09:36 AM

I want to go back blonde after being pink/purple for a while. I stripped it, when it was a red/brown colour and it went a blonde/ginger type colour, I bought hair dye on the day after, made sure to wash my hair a few times to get rid of the stripper stuff and dyed it but it didn't have any effect, if anything my hair has gone more ginger! So, how do I get it to go blonde?

I was considering getting a lighter blonde than I used before, I suggested this to my girlfriend and she said it would bleach my hair, is this my best option and if I did it, would it actually work or would it not do anything/get worse? Any other suggests are appreciated, I'm not too fussed with how it looks at the moment so I'm not about to rush out and mess with my hair anymore, I'm going to give it a week before I do anything else but I want to know what the best option is. Thanks!

Hey,

I've never gone fully blonde myself but using toner is supposed to help get those brassy/gingery tones out of hair once it's been bleached.

I usually bleach my hair and then dye it another colour straight away so I've never had to use toner but I use the Smart Beauty kits and the blonde version of that includes bleach and a sachet of toner to use afterwards. They're not too expensive either (only about 2 if you go to Savers or Home Bargains).

You can always buy the toning shampoo and conditioner as well to keep the ginger tones away for good. A Touch of Silver is quite popular and you can find it in most stores.

I hope this helps
