Growing out my hair. - March 15th 2014, 03:53 AM

Juat wondering, is there any way to talk my parents into growing out my hair? I really want to grow it out to prepare for transitioning, but I don't want my parents to know about my gender identity yet. And also, are there any tips for growing it out faster?

I'm not sure how to make it grow faster since mine seems to grow at a decent rate on its own, but I'm assuming you are MtF? Correct me if I'm wrong on that, since your gender is showing up as squares. But, if so, since you don't want them to know your gender identity, you can always remind them that guys CAN wear long hair, and maybe even show them examples of some hairstyles that you'd be interested in. You can assure them you'd take care of it (ie washing it properly, combing it), and if necessary, speak with someone who would be doing your hair to get longer hairstyles that would look good with your facial features.

For growing out your hair, make sure to keep it really healthy! Get the dead ends trimmed and clean your hair well. Make sure it doesn't get too dry (that can lead to the hair breaking), but too oily isn't very healthy either. I agree with Dez about showing pictures to your parents. As she said, guys can wear long hair! I've known many that do have longer hair, so you can always remind your parents of that. Find some hairstyles that you're interested in and look into them to decide which one would be the best fit for you. Good luck with everything.
