okay so I want super luscious long hair - June 8th 2010, 03:50 AM

Right now my hair is about 3 inches past the top of my shoulders and I'm looking to grow it long and healthy.

Should I really go like organic for shampoos or what? I quite blowdrying my hair except for special occasions. What's some other stuff I can do to get georgous hair?

tips?

Take prenatal vitamins, I heard they held haha. Apperently they have the same vitamins that help grow you hair and nails faster. Make sure no one thinks you're pregnant, though, haha..

Honestly, trim it. Every 2 months, get the dead ends trimmed off. If you let your ends get too split, your hair will just, stop growing, pretty much.

I've got long hair, working on growing it to my waist (right now it's around my mid-back), and I don't use any special shampoos, I won't blow dry it, AT ALL, I make sure it's not tangled, try to avoid using product (like hair sprays or gels), wash it every 2-3 days (NOT every day) to keep the natural oils, etc. And I do dye my hair, but that hasn't seemed to have any effect on the growth. If it has, it must've been minimal, since I can't see anything.

Pretty much, basic care steps everyone should take no matter their hair length.

The biggest thing for me is making sure I don't get too many spilt ends. Get it trimmed, dead straggly ends get tangled and are weak, so your hair ends up breaking more often which actually makes it shorter in the long run.. and frizzy! Also, make sure when you brush it, you start from the bottom and go gently. My hair gets really tangled so I use a wide tooth comb to get out the big snarls and if it's really bad, I spray it with kids detangler (I love Sauve brand), comb it, and then brush it after. Oh, and they say putting your hair in a ponytail/bun for long periods of time can make it break easier too so you might want to try wearing it down as often as possible. Good luck :]

My hair is to the dimples in my lower back, I can almost sit on it, I don't dye it, very rarely blow dry it, or straighten it, get it cut every six weeks, wash every 2 days, and make sure i leave it down at least 3 times a week. I Use sep conditioner and shampoo, and one it's towel dryed I put doves heat defence spray on, because of the heat now, how drys out quicker, and I also use spray leave in condtionor once its dry.

Get it cut often. Wash it often. use good conditioner and leave it in for a few minutes. Avoid blow drying and stuff (wash at night so you wake up and its dry) .

KEEP IT CLEAN, thats the big one, find a shampoo/conditioner that works for you and use it.
Get it trimmed i'd say every 3 months, split ends are a pain and look bad.

Let it dry naturally.

I've always heard that mane and tail works

It's horse shampoo but for real, that's what I've ALWAYS heard to use.
It couldn't hurt.

I'm not really good with hair, but I have some tips.

Don't use straighteners/curling irons that much. If you do, put on a spray before hand that makes sure it doesn't fry your hair. That's what I usually do.

Trim it when you get dead ends.

Ask your hair dresser what to do. I dunno.

There may be certain shampoos/conditioners that make your hair look more luscious.

I recommend leave-in conditioners.

I'm trying to grow my hair too so I'm defintley going to start taking pre-natal vitamins, though I'm drawing the line at horse shampoo. For now.

I struggle not to blow dry my hair twice a week though because well I go out to places where my hair needs to be nice normally twice a week minimum and when my hair dries naturally it dries horrifically. Maybe I should try plaiting it to see it if gives it nicer wavers or something.

My hair is very thick naturally, just not long!

If you find anything that works let me know please!

You can take Biotin as well. It promotes healthy hair and nail growth.

Re: okay so I want super luscious long hair - July 3rd 2010, 02:29 AM

My hair grows very fast naturally, I'm not sure I could stop it if I tried. I just use cheap shampoo and conditioner (Suave mint and rosemary) but it smells delicious and my hair is always silky.

My hair is also very oily naturally, which keeps it in good shape without much work on my part, but means I have to wash it every day. Once a week I use a shampoo made by Neutrogena that is essentially meant to strip out natural oils plus any residue, but I don't think it really works well for me--my hair still turns into an oil slick over night. If you have dry or brittle hair, you might try washing at night and letting it dry naturally. Try out shampoos and conditioners until you find one that you like. Use the whole bottle before giving up on a brand or formula, as you'll need to give it time to work.

I find washing in morning works best for me, but my hair dries beautifully naturally. The only product I use is hairspray, and only when I'm wearing a loose up-do. Try to avoid wearing a tight pony tail, as I'd imagine that will increase the chances of your hair breaking, plus it leaves unsightly bumps in your hair until it's washed again. If you do tie your hair up, leave it loose and take it down when possible.

Don't color, perm or chemically straighten your hair for a while, as that might help it to be healthier. I use a flat iron sometimes, mostly in place of a product (I find the heat helps it stay in place better than product, personally) but excessive straightening and blow drying obviously isn't good.

Like other people have said, have your hair trimmed regularly, it helps!

^ If you want to make it less oily, stop stripping the oils out! Your hair will produce more oils if you strip it out. And although you feel you need to wash your hair every day, that only makes the problem worse. If you did leave it eventually it would balance out and you would not have to wash it every day. Washing/stripping out the oil only stimulates your hair to produce MORE oil!

Re: okay so I want super luscious long hair - July 5th 2010, 03:35 PM

I wish! I've tried to let it balance out, but the only practical time to do that where I live is winter (too hot during the summer = sweat = gross ) and winter is when having long hair is a blessing since it helps keep me warm. I've tried only washing every other day, hoping it would balance out eventually, but I just end up feeling terribly self conscious because after one day I look like I haven't showered in a week.

Every other day isn't going to work, you need to leave it at least 5 days. Or more if you can. I know, I'm doing it at this moment and I look and feel disgusting but it will be worth it. I've only been doing it for 2 weeks but already my hair can last 3 days until it even starts to look greasy which is such a massive improvement, it was just like yours before. You're doing your hair more harm than good, honestly!
