How to protect hair when swimming? - August 4th 2010, 10:39 AM

Last week I got my hair done and got a few bleached highlights in. I wanted to start swimming this summer but I am now waiting until after my birthday this weekend because I don't want to have green hair on my birthday.

So I was wondering when I do start swimming next week what can I do to protect my hair.

Any special shampoo or conditioner or anything I can put on my hair before I get in the water.

After being in swim for a year and watching other dye their hair, they haven't had much success with keeping their color in, even while using a swim cap. I would rise your hair off right away after getting out of the pool.
I swim year round, and I use Mane and Tail on my hair and it's never green. I'm not sure how safe it will be on your hair because but it will stop it from turning green.

I kind of think because my hair isn't dyed the dye can't run.
It is just bleached highlights, so I am just thinking of the horror stories of it going green or orange.
I have a good hair dresser and I know I could get it fixed if it did go wrong but I am still waiting until after my birthday just in case. I would appreciate anything that could help prevent anything like this happening anyway.
A lot of websites have said as long as you don't go swimming straight after getting it done, it should be fine as long as you give the bleach time to take to the hair.

I am planning on going swimming once a week, twice at the most. I am thinking if I rinse it and wash it as soon as I get out and put a leave in conditioner it should stop the chlorine making my hair brittle and dry.

Before you get in the water, wet your hair so that your hair won't absorb as much chlorine. Also, apply leave-in conditioner before swimming.

After swimming, make sure to rinse your hair.

I have been swimming and my hair is fine. This is what I have been using in case anyone wants to know.

I am rinsing my hair before swimming and then putting this on

Afterwards I was my hair with these.

Then use this colour protecting leave in conditioner when my hair is half dry.
