Purple hair dye :] - October 11th 2010, 02:59 AM

I've been trying to get a vibrant, long-lasting purple hair dye. I've tried: MP Lie Locks [which was terrible, didn't do anything], MP Purple Haze [too pinkish for me] and SFX Wild Flower [Fantastic, but I have to order it online for a cheap price].

I'm wondering if anybody has tried out purple dyes and has come across an amazing one? MP, Punky and SFX are accessible in my city for around $15 each, SFX online is $8 + S&H. I'm not sure about other brands but I could look around.

[MP Purple Haze, keep in mind dyed over white here, not blonde. Fades pink]
[SFX Wildflower, bottom layer. Love this color!]
[SFX Wildflower and MP Lie Locks, 50/50. Top layer, underneath MP Midnight Blue and faded MP Raven]

I used 'crazy colour' I think it was. It's in a pink tube. And I've used that brand with all the colours I've used.

The thing is with really bright colours like these, is that they're not normal dyes like brown and black, so they don't really last as long normally. They all work better when the base colour is really light (IE bleach) and last longer if you refrain from washing your hair too regularly. Purple will always fade to pink. And the best thing to do is to redye it every 3/4 weeks, depending on how often you wash your hair and how fast the dye has faded.

This sort of colour can be a bit of a pain to maintain, but I find it worth it in the end after all the trouble.

Take care.

I agree with Tayla. When I dyed my hair red it faded like crazy ____ I just give up and dyed in brown as it drove me insane

I used the same dye as Kitty. It worked great!

When I had purple streaks in my hair, I used the "Special Effects", and mixed "Wildflower" and "Pimpin' Purple".

Here is a picture of what the streaks looked like:

Anyways, I found my dye lasted fairly long, despite excessively washing my hair (I was in college for Welding, so I got messy easy). My sister used the same brand, in the Flamingo Pink, on the underside of her hair, and after 3 months, it was still perfect. SHe had to bleach her hair twice to remove it, though.

The blue and green I got from SFX were terrible, but the purple was fantastic. I think I might just stick with them for purples from now on.

Sadly, that is only available in the US, not in Canada where I am. I believe demi-permanent lasts shorter than semi-permanent as well, does it not?

The BEST one is Pravana's Chromasilk. It was the most vivid shade of purple. It was amazing when I used it.

Oops sorry.

I believe that demi-permanent actually last longer. How long it will last also will depend on the brand.

I got purple in my bangs right now and I use Manic Panic. It works pretty okay, you just gotta redo it every week or so.
