Layered Hair & Maintenance? - February 18th 2012, 05:43 PM

Hi all, I'm looking to change up my hairstyle a bit and I'm considering layers. My hair is naturally straight, shoulder length, not thin but not too thick, and flips out slightly at the ends. I don't straighten it and am not really looking to get into the habit. So I was wondering, what kind of maintenance is required of layered hair? Most girls I know who have layers straighten it everyday. Other layers look really choppy to me. (Which is my biggest concern.) What would I have to do to keep my hair looking nice?

Also, I was considering going with side bangs. Thoughts? Would side bangs without the layers in the rest of my hair still look nice?

As long as you don't get your hair razor cut, it won't look really choppy. Just ask to get it done with scissors. Layers will flip out a little more, but you could always just buy some product to put on the ends to help keep them tame. Side bangs always look nice, and yes, they will look nice even without layers

And here you are living, despite it all.

I also have naturally straight hair, and I alwayyyys get layers because I like to have my hair long. It gives my hair body, and looks nice without having to maintain it all when I don't want to! As long as you ask for medium to long layers, then they shouldn't look choppy at all I usually start my layers at or just below my nose plus if you have a side bang make sure you tell them to blend the layers with it if you don't want a hugely noticeable bang.

Thank you so much, guys!! Your posts have helped me a lot! I'm not overly knowledgeable about these kinds of things, so I'm never really sure!!
