Lip stud to ring - September 2nd 2010, 03:06 AM

Hay everyone.
So I got my spiderbites done about... 5 weeks ago.
First I had long bars in them for the swelling, then I went and got spikes for them when the swelling went down.
Now, I want to get lip rings. I went out and bought some, but I don't know whether I can put them in myself or if I should take them to my local piercer and ask them if they'll put them in for me.
Is 5 weeks long enough to where I should be able to put them in myself, or what? :S

Hey.

Changing jewelry this early isn't recommended normally. What I suggest is, to avoid messing with the healing process, you change it when the piercer said it was fine. If I'm not mistaken, its usually 2-3 months for lip piercings, but it could be longer. You shouldn't change it too early.

But once its healed, it should be easy enough to do yourself, if its not a CBR. Captive Ball Rings usually require pliers, so you'd want to go to the professional for that. But if its like a horseshoe, and unscrews at the ends, changing it should be pretty simple.

These studs have just been getting on my nerves. I can wait a few more weeks though, I don't want to mess it up :3

No problem. Its better to wait until its definitely healed properly, instead of just guessing. I've seen piercings end up "lop-sided" (basically, it would tilt off to one side rather than stay straight) because of having hoops in the piercing too early. Thats actually why many piercers have stopped piercing with hoops, favoring posts and barbells.

I'd wait a few months, and yes you probably could do it, I did. It will hurt because you are changing the direction the tunnel goes, from straight through to on an angle. But yeah, once its done, its done. Good luck

I'd suggest you wait a bit longer.
It is a few months too soon.
Otherwise i'd have someone help you with it.
But it's best to probably wait or have the piercer help you.

I changed my nose stud into a ring too soon...it got infected, and took a week for it to clear up. I regret messing with it.
So really wait!
