Monroe -
September 25th 2010, 09:37 PM
So, I got a Monroe piercing on Thursday, it's not red or anything and it's still a little swelled but it's really irritating my gums and my teeth, but more so my gums. I have a longer bar in seeing thats what they pierce it with, but the piercer said I can change it once the swelling goes down. When I change t a shorter bar will this irratation stop? If not how can I stop it?

I personally think that if it's still a little swollen, you shouldn't change the bar. It's a longer bar to allow for the swelling so changing it doesn't seem like a good idea to me but I wouldn't really know. As for the irritation, I'd say it would probably stop in time. It's a new piercing so you're adjusting to it being there and getting use to it, once you've had it a while it'll just stop.

Charlie has the right idea. Since it's still a bit swollen leave the bar in you were pierced with for now. You have to wait to change it until the swelling is down and such before you change it. If you go back into your piercer once the swelling is down they will normally change it for you and you just have to pay for the shorter bar.
Irritation is normal for a little while since you're getting used to the new piercing. I know when I got my lower lip done I had some irritation for a little while. It'll all be better once your mouth gets used to the back of the bar. |

My friend kept going back to get hers changed and they wouldn't take the bar out for about three weeks. If it gets really badly irritated you might want to ask them if it's OK, but on the whole that might just be your initial reaction to getting it pierced; it should feel better over time.
Maybe it's not my weekend but it's gonna be my year.
It's perfectly fine to be a happy individual. Take off at the speed of sound... |

Since the OP's question has been answered, I am going to close this thread.
Good luck with your piercing and PM me if you want this reopened.
