Monroe - September 25th 2010, 09:37 PM

So, I got a Monroe piercing on Thursday, it's not red or anything and it's still a little swelled but it's really irritating my gums and my teeth, but more so my gums. I have a longer bar in seeing thats what they pierce it with, but the piercer said I can change it once the swelling goes down. When I change t a shorter bar will this irratation stop? If not how can I stop it?

It should stop the irritation, but it could still occur because of where it would be. I don't think there's much you can do to stop the irritation. Maybe wait until the swelling goes down so you can change the bar and try the shorter one, and maybe see if the inner end of it can be changed to something different. Maybe that might have an effect.

If all else fails, speak to your piercer and ask for their advise. They know what they're on about! Take care.

I personally think that if it's still a little swollen, you shouldn't change the bar. It's a longer bar to allow for the swelling so changing it doesn't seem like a good idea to me but I wouldn't really know. As for the irritation, I'd say it would probably stop in time. It's a new piercing so you're adjusting to it being there and getting use to it, once you've had it a while it'll just stop.

Charlie has the right idea. Since it's still a bit swollen leave the bar in you were pierced with for now. You have to wait to change it until the swelling is down and such before you change it. If you go back into your piercer once the swelling is down they will normally change it for you and you just have to pay for the shorter bar.

Irritation is normal for a little while since you're getting used to the new piercing. I know when I got my lower lip done I had some irritation for a little while. It'll all be better once your mouth gets used to the back of the bar.

My friend kept going back to get hers changed and they wouldn't take the bar out for about three weeks. If it gets really badly irritated you might want to ask them if it's OK, but on the whole that might just be your initial reaction to getting it pierced; it should feel better over time.

Maybe it's not my weekend but it's gonna be my year.

It's perfectly fine to be a happy individual.
