Amanda, I can't say that piercing your hand alone was a good idea. In fact, piercing anything on your own isn't a good idea. Where on your hand did you pierce it?

You can keep it clean by getting the piercing cleaner that they sell at drug stores, or tattoo/piercing places. Most should have it. Neosporin can be helpful as well. Also, if you are able to rotate the piercing like you would a belly button ring, or earrings, then you should do that about three times a day.

To keep it from becoming infected, you need to leave it in for a few months I believe, or a few weeks. Because taking it out, and putting it back in a lot will cause infetion. I am not for certain on how long it will take to close up, but I can imagine fairly quickly. It's a new piercing, so perhaps a week, give or take?

oh my goodness.
I am a piercer.
Do NOT mutilate your skin...

if your school doesn't allow it then don't have it till you are out of school.

as a fresh hole, it will start to close immediately.

Should you really be doing things like that if you're pregnant?

And fillin' with emotion he took a bite'

Since you are pregnant, it is very dangerous to pierce yourself while you are pregnant. You are putting you and your baby at risk for infection. The trauma of getting pierced is also unhealthy for the baby.

Amanda, I'd really advise you to get it cleaned and let it heal up. If you'd really like your hand pierced, get it done professionally after you've had the baby. Piercings get infected very easily; ear piercings are one thing but hands come into contact with just about everything. You can clean it with piercing lotion they provide at piercing salons.

I know that's not answering your original question but I think the others are right; piercings and pregnancy aren't a good mix.

Take care.

Maybe it's not my weekend but it's gonna be my year.

It's perfectly fine to be a happy individual.

Take off at the speed of sound...

Use some Bactine (its what I use for piercings, you can find it anywhere) to keep away infections and let it close up. I don't recommend doing that when you are pregnant because its not safe for your baby or yourself. Next time, go see a piercer.
