Lip piercing? -
May 13th 2011, 07:46 PM
Soooo...I REALLY want to get my lip pierced. It's kind of insane, how much I want to get it done. I know the risks of getting your lip pierced [ya know, like chipping your teeth
] and that's not really what I'm looking to find out. I was just wondering if anyone has their lip pierced and what their experience was with it...like..., how was the pain, healing time, etc. I don't know if I'm making much sense ![]() Also, I have no idea if a lip piercing would even look good on me. I just want like...the bottom left side of my lip. Thanks

Ive never had a lip piercing (although i too really want it done!)
But my sister got it done, and she said she could barley feel it at all, although she handles pain and needles very well! She had no problems with infections or anything at all, or chipping of the teeth, just hiding it in school and from dad! ![]() Sorry i couldn't be more help as it weren't myself :P but yeah she had no problems

I have a pretty high pain tolerance. I have my nose pierced as well as an industrial and a tattoo.
Speaking of hiding though....how did/does she hide it? Especially when she first got it done, before she could use something like a retainer? There are a few people who wouldn't need to know about my lip being pierced.

You can ask your piercer what he/she has available in the way of retainers that you can get when you first get your lip pierced.

It's called a snake bite piercing.
To be brutally honest, I would take caution. I'm not telling you not to get one, as I think piercings are a sign of individuality, but I didn't have a good experience. Not to long ago, I decided to get one. I thought it was a smart choice, I only did it because the rest of my friends had one. So it's peer pressure. The day after I got it, my bottom lip was severely swollen. The veins in the lip are very sensitive, and the piercing was causing it to irritate. I had to stop wearing it. My friends were mad but I was really concerned about my health. I don't look good in piercings anyways. Do more research on snake bite piercings. See what the restrictions are, the health risks, etc. Don't be afraid to talk to the tattoo/piercing artist as well. Knowledge is half the battle. ![]() |

Ok, one more question.
If I got it pierced, I think I'd just want a hoop on the side...and I was thinking the left side would look best...but, I'm not sure. My nose is pierced on the left side. I'm worried that I'll look lopsided ![]() But, I got my industrial on my right ear. So...maybe that makes it more even? I don't know. I might be putting too much thought into this.

First off, one piercing is not a 'snakebite' piercing. That is what I have and it is getting 2 piercings. One on each side of your lip.
Second, if you've gotten an industrial and nose piercing already, a lip piercing will be super easy! My nose piercing was the most painful I've had and I couldn't feel my lip. The only annoyance was swelling but you can take ibuprofen for swelling. ![]() Also, always make sure you go to a good piercer who works in a clean shop. Otherwise your lip piercing will turn out like what Vibrant described. If the piercing is done wrong or at a wrong angle, it will cause problems like that. I've seen plenty of people walk into our shop with piercings done wrong by a piercer or by a friend and had major problems with it. Take good care of it while it heals too. The piercer should give you aftercare instructions if you do decide to get it done but sea salt soaks 2-3 times a day and use non-alcohol mouthwash to rinse your mouth out a couple times a day to help keep it clean. Any more piercing questions or anything related to body modification feel free to PM me. I work in a tattoo shop so I'd be happy to answer any questions you have! |
