Switch from 16G to 18G -
July 13th 2011, 07:59 PM
Hello,
I got my nose pierced almost a year ago. To be honest, I'd like to get a new nose stud (or a few). Thing is that when I called the piercing place to ask what size gauge it was, I was told 16. I want to switch to an 18, because that is a more common size. Any suggestions on how to safely do so? Also, is it correct that if a nose piercing is not marked in a store, it's 18G? Afraid to buy the wrong size, because it would either be too small or hurt like hell. Thanks! |

I wouldn't think you would have any issues switching from 16 to 18 because you're going smaller. The hole should just end up becoming a little bit smaller over time, that's all.

I would find no problems with going to an 18, like Myss said, your going to a smaller size. Usually when you go to find any type of piercing the size of the piercing is on the package and if it is not you can always ask a sales person.
Always remember to put your happiness first.

Thank you both! =)
I have a question about the different types of nose piercings. I've been reading about corkscrews (that's the one I currently have), bones, straight/bendable, and L shaped. I'm not keen on my corkscrew so far, because it took me an hour just to figure out how to get it out (but maybe that is because it was the first time?). And I just bought a nose bone, because they seem easy enough. But I have heard some people say that they're painful. How painful exactly? =P As far as the straight/bendable, and L shaped ones go, I assume they are easier than a corkscrew, but how about a nose bone? Once I get the hang of this, I have a feeling I'm going to be buying A LOT of different ones! =P |

hey, i did this too, got my nose pierced about gee 4 years ago now, at a 16g, and recently (probably 1 year ago) switched to a size 18g. the hole got smaller- just adjusted to the jewlery.
nose bones, personally i don't like them. the make my nose sore haha, but i have to take mine out every day for work. i prefer L shaped, they're the easiest to put in and take out, especially if you're going to be doing it often. corkscrews are alright, just kinda a pain to put in/take out. and the L shape ones i find are easy enough to bend if it doesn't fit perfect to your nose. ![]() ![]() |

Are nose bones hard to get out? I'm not so worried about getting them in. I don't know why I'm so worried about getting it out though. =P L shaped do seem like they'd be quite easy. I may get one or a couple and see how I like them. I'm thinking since I've already got a nose screw and am waiting on the nose bone (it's got a rainbow flag logo, SO EXCITED) to arrive, I should buy at least one L shaped. Then once I see which I like best, I'll be all good. =) Thanks for your input!

nose bones are kinda hard to take out if the piercing is new. just cuz it aggrivates the hole a little more than other jewlery does...
L shaped are my favorite hands down, easy to change em, and i don't even notice mine anymore. comfy lol. ![]() ![]() |
