How 'permanent' are micodermals? -
August 24th 2011, 11:55 PM
I really want my hips pierced. But my issue is I don't want them to reject - which they will eventually with surface bars.
So I've been thinking about microdermals for them instead. I've been trying to look them up, but I'm highly confused/concerned on one fact: Some people say they're permanent and some say you can go back to a professional to take them out whenever... I don't want to be 80 years old with my hips pierced... ![]() So, does anyone know or have personal experience with dermals that could answer this? How 'permanent' are dermals? Also, I heard that if you have micodermals, you can't go through medical machines? MRIs and stuff like that... Is that true? I would imagine it wouldn't be because they're supposed to be long term, but I just want to be sure. Just in case. |

Not sure about much of that.. But one of three of my friend's microdermals actually rejected.. So I don't know if that helps any.

Microdermals are more of a semi-permanent piercing. You can go into any piercer that has microdermal experience and it wouldn't be much a problem for them to remove it. It's actually fairly simple. I have a couple and it was by far my least painful piercing. The reason they call it 'permanent' is because the tissues grow around and through the holes in the foot of the anchor.
Even with microdermals there is a possibility of rejection. Getting your hips pierced with microdermals could be an issue as well with snagging them on things. I have a couple facial dermals and my hair will occasionally snag them, so I can't imagine pants or something snagging them. Just something to keep in mind! Here's an article to a BME article answering some of your other questions! http://ask.bmezine.com/2007/11/07/dermal-anchors/ |

I heard on average they only last around two years. One of the biggest problems with those are if you have to get an x ray, they cant do it or they will have to cut the jewlery out of your skin to be able to do it.
Hope this helps. The Stars Are Allways There But We Miss Them In The Darkened Clouds. We Miss Them In The Storms. Tell Them To Remember Hope. We Have Hope.

Morgan, that's not true. I know people who have had their dermals for many years. It all depends on who does them, if they're done properly, and how your body heals and reacts with it. You can also get x-rays, mri's, ct scans anything with a dermal as stated in my link above..
![]() Also, they should never have to cut the jewelry out. Always have a piercer experienced in implanting dermals and removing them do it. Otherwise you could end up with someone going way over the top like that to remove it. Our piercer has never had to cut a dermal out, it's all about the technique!

Morgan is right. Microdermals are okay to be removed, but only by an experienced piercer.
When I was in first aid class, they were teaching us how to use the defibrulator things, and they said do not remove the piercings, but if you are shocked with the AED machine, chances are you will have minor burning around the piercing because of the metal. Keep in mind, even though you want them on your hips, which is kind of private, you may not want a piercing that you can't take off easily...I have to take my piercings out for school sometimes because lots of our schooling is like...up in trees and doing ropes courses and stuff (I do child and youth care work...play is part of school haha). Just something to think about when getting piercings...Idk if it would be much of a problem for you, but always something to think about when getting something semi-permanent. Also think about when you get pregnant and things like that...the skin is gunna stretch and post-preggers bellies don't tend to be as sexy and awesome as they used to be Just do some good thinking and make an educated choice
